  1. Nice bit of drawing there, Mark. Has a speedy, SR-71 look to it. Be careful hollowing that gem.
  2. They might be the cartridge carriers for the powder monkeys. Powder bag, wad(s) and the projectile (round shot, bar shot, etc.).
  3. They sell bamboo skewers for cooking. Check for them in cooking supply places. We have a bag of 100 or so. You'd have to split them and then run them thru a draw plate to get to your desired diameter.
  4. If you want some peeling paint, daub some rubber cement on in a few spots. Paint your body color and then peel off the rubber cement daubs. I used it on some logging camp shacks and they were OK. Don't get too carried away with the technique and do everything. Less is more.
  5. Greg, I'm going to follow along, too. Like John said, one of the most significant steel warships.
  6. Per, the offer of some Swedish coffee sealed the deal. We drink Gevalia here. I too will follow along.
  7. Nicely done, Matt. I really like your work with the cherry. That's a great looking hull; great lines.
  8. Red oak has some coarse grain to it. Poplar is better, but has some grain coloring to it. If you can pick through the poplar to minimize the coloring, it's a nice wood. Works OK.
  9. Good luck with the operation, Bill. We'll be here waiting, like a tree full of owls.
  10. Gerhard, nice work with your frames. Smart to make those notes on them, too. And how'd you like the race?
  11. Get some "sugar cube" speakers, like in a cell phone. Also, check out the tiny speakers the model railroaders use inside their locomotives.
  12. Check your favorite decal vendor for a product called Micro Scale "Micro Kristal Klear". It's used by model railroaders and armor folks for glazing. MicroMark may have infringed this product; hence they no longer sell Micro-Glaze.
  13. Cathead, the sails look great. Krylon makes a clear fixative to protect your seam work with pencils. Forget what they call it; the Ace folks took me right to that section pf the rack. Prevent your fine pencil lines from smudging.
  14. An Emory board is a fingernail file with sandpaper on it. Go to any pharmacy, like CVS or RiteAid in the US. Get them in coarse and fine grits.
  15. I have a few of the modules. The tool holders are nice, keeping those items in one place and close at hand. Looking at getting some of the paint holders, too; I use PollyScale/Floquil, Tamiya and ModelMaster. And some Vallejo colors, too. The racks are sized for the different size bottles. May try one of each of the 2 sizes of racks.
  16. Fire up the Opti-visor, desk magnifier and a couple of spot lights. I just did some Z scale (1/220) houses. And they were mostly precut laser kits. I can't imagine working that small for more than about 10 minutes at a time. This will be interesting. I'll pull up a seat and bring some fresh carrots along to enhance my seeing ability. Anyone for a carrot?
  17. What are your thoughts on the 2nd planking? Walnut, cherry or some more exotic hardwood?
  18. Greg, she's a wee thing. Excellent detailing there. Inspirational work.
  19. Mathematically it should help in laying the battens out, but I'd double check the curve's smoothness with the old eyeballs. This is the "art" creeping in.
  20. Looks like the mice got into the plans and instructions, Harlequin. Wood and other parts look kinda OK. Good luck.
  21. Gee whiz, I thought I was the only dullard who needed to mark directions and sides. Sounds like an orthopedic doctor I had for joint replacement surgery. Asked me to mark the leg he's supposed to work on, just before they knocked me out.
