Christos, She is looking great! However, I am curious. You have said in earlier posts that you are building the replica ship and not the original. In what ways do they differ? Thanks! Bill

Paul, Your build log is a wonderful "find" for me! I am building an old model of the ship by Aeropiccola (approximately 1/180 scale, or the size of the Airfix plastic kit). My wife bought the kit for me when we were stationed in La Maddelena, Sardinia, Italy at the end of the 1970s. Anyway, I have been slowly converting her to the raised forecastle bulwarks as in the Caldercraft model. You log has shown me some details I should consider for my model. Thanks! Bill Morrison

I very much like the red. I hope that it doesn't eventually begin to flake off.

I really like what you have done with the ships wheel. It is all well done, but the wheel stands out to me. Bill

Jim, I just found this thread. You are doing a wonderful job! It is a shame that there are no longer any kits available of any of the two-decker 44s, the only one previously manufactured having been the defunct Aeropiccola HMS Serapis. I will have to study your entire build log in greater detail. Bill

Hubac, I just noticed that you are in NYC. I live near New London, CT. Perhaps we can meet somewhere in between sometime and share ideas about LSR. I find the level of research and the ensuing conversation here very enlightening. As a Ph.D. in history, and as a professor of history at UCONN, I am extremely impressed by the quality of discourse here. I am learning from each of the contributors here. Bill

Christos, Thank you for enlightening me about the flag under which Hermione sailed to the U.S. in 1780. I had not seen any reference to that, so I appreciate the information. Although I understand that the model is of the replica ship, I believe that, once the crew are included with a replica of the Marquis, the correct flag should be included. I bought a Fleur de Lis flag set from HisModel in Czechoslovakia for my kit and will now have to reconsider that choice. But, it is the builder's choice and I respect your reasoning. It does lend itself to an interesting discussion. Also, I would greatly appreciate that list of colors and any photos of the ship. Thank you for the kind offer! Bill

Beautiful job so far! You have done excellent work. I also just bought this kit and I hope that I can emulate your fine work. However, there is one glaring error in the kit that I could not overlook. The model is supposed to depict the ship as she sailed with the Marquis d' Lafayette in 1780. Yet, the kit contains the Tricolor flag of Revolutionary France after 1793. She should fly the flag of Bourbon France with the fleur de lis on a white background. I wish that kit manufacturers would be a little more careful about issues like this. Again, your model is quite beautiful! Bill
