  1. I remember asking him several questions about his Philly. That model was outstanding. It was very detailed and each time you look you see something else that catches your eye. David B
  2. Your mast hoops came out great. And I am gld you are past your slump. I am going through that nasty problem now. David B
  3. The Fair American is built to a larger scale so it would be a little easier to work on things. I have seen several impressive models of her. The Syren is also beauty but a little more intricate and more difficult. With Chuck's Practicum you would be able to do it. The choice is yours to make. David B
  4. You're making good progress Mark. The Rattlesnake makes into a real beauty. But the kit has some pitfalls from what I have seen. My advice would be to study each phase as you proceed and check the build logs of those who have built it. As for the ports you have a good idea but as noted before be careful of your alignment to the deck, Keep up the great work. David B
  5. Looking good. The oil finish makes it stand out but be careful. When you use oil on a surface it is almost impossible to glue anything to it. David B
  6. One of the members in my club uses Sparex as a pickling agent and has been very hppy with the results. The stuff can be had from any shop that sells jewelry supplies. David B
  7. Fantastic workmanship Ken, are you using an airbrush or by hand? David B
  8. It looks like a vessel would look under the conditions you have described. David B
  9. If you can stain boxwood blocks I would like to know ow you do it, I never had luck doing it myself. David B
  10. Ian, I have always been a fan of research whe I can find the info. Your research and what you did with it is what I try to do when I can. Good job on the capstan David B.
  11. Treenails are up to the individual. But at the scale you are working at I would not use them as they would look to big and deract from the rest of the model. David B
  12. Your SOS is coming along fine. My hat goes off to you for the redo you have done. David B
  13. Great way to enhance and improve on a subject. Kudos on a job well done David B
  14. Congrats on a well done subject. I would be leery of having that little sailor so close to a work of art he might knock into it. David B
  15. What did you use for your finish? It looks great David B
  16. I think you are doing a great job nd tackling the Vic as your first model is pretty gutsy. Have fun and follow the advice you get and when you get tired just walk away for awhile then come back and work on it again. David B
  17. I used black shoe dye for thee wales and dyed the wood off the model. I prebent the parts first. The dye ha a thing for seeping into the pores of what ever you are coloring. But the effort is worth it. David B
  18. Looking good Lee. I wish I could build at that speed and still be precise in my work like you are doing. David B
  19. I am glad to come across your new build Pete. It is refreshing to see a modern racing ship every now and then. Your hull looks like a sleek thoroughbred ready to run a couple of laps. Okay if I joint the rest in looking in on your build I should learn plenty from it. David B
