  1. Expensive but cheaper than a mill. Get some clot bags and put one per bag. Then a pouch of silion gel that you find in boxes to absorb the moisture and they can be safely stored until the next time or next week David B
  2. I picked up a plane like the bottom one awhile back I think it is called a shoulder plane. Nice for getting into the edge. But I found out that for a smooth cut make sure the blade is sharp and take a light cut the end result is amazing. I got mine from Ebay. David B
  3. Congratulations Jesse on a nice model and a enjoyable and learning log. You did wonders and taught several how to overcome some problems. Have you decided on another project? David B
  4. Fantastic work, you are making great progress and doing a marvelous job with what you have. Makes me a little envious. Remember to have fun and document your work. David B
  5. At a hands on demo I was having problems with my Paache. The demonstrator looked it over then eyeballed the needle and found that it had a slight bend. He said I must have dropped it. Be careful of the needle. If you are having problems eyeball it. As a result when I needed a new air brush I found a Badger 360 for a decent price and picked up some extra needles to be on the safe side. I was also told to use the correct needle/nozzle for the application. Plus keep a container of cleaner near by and spray it every now and then to prevent clogging. David B
  6. My grandmother used one for as long I could remember the thing finally broke down and she got a new one. It's looking better every day. David B
  7. Still too much rigging. I have an allergy to rigging. Years ago I fully rigged a Cutty Sark and did not feel to well afterward. Since then the less I have to do the better I feel. David B
  8. Looking good man. Have you tried changing the kind of lighting you are using? This will change the shade of the coloring quite a bit. David B
  9. Without my glasses I am blind as a bat. Half the work I do is with some magnifiers. David B
  10. Fantastic work Patrick. I believe you pulled off a good one. Great looking model at that scale. David B
  11. I know several who rely on krylon grey primer. David B
  12. Too delicate my hat is off to you. My paws would crushed them. David B
  13. I forgot how many times I had to redo a model over the years. I remember redoing the belaying pins on a clipper I worked done on my models. I remember redoing the belaying pins at least a dozen times until I got the size right to scale. David B
  14. It looks like you are going to have it running with the wind. This should be interesting when you decide how to set the sails. I remember reading an article about the Sea Witch. The crew was terrified because the Cap't ordered all the canvas spread in a gale and the crew was afraid it would be swamped. The Cap't was a pusher. Is this how you are going to display it when finished? David B
  15. Are you talking about a plastic deck or wooden? The techniques used are different for eachDavid B.
