Your a lucky man Jim to be able to attend that workshop, I'd love to but work gets in the way unfortunatly. Excellent work on the first frame and Im sure your build will continue to get even better. ben -
Thanks for the clarification guys, I just knew Rusty would not have done it without a reason - thats more like a mistake I would make. ben

Hi jason, Yeh - the model expo paints are not very good, Id go back to the Valjeo paints if i was you, Myself I use Newton&Windsor Galleria Acrylics and i paint them on VERY thin, pretty much just a wash, but many many coats with sanding inbetween, I think the titanium white that I used on the hull had about 15 coats over a weeks period. Looking forward to seeing more. ben

Grant - Congrats on finishing the ratlines, a major milestone in any build, and it all looks superb, very well done my friend. Can't wait to see the next update and post lots of pics for you know who... Ben

Wow - that is gonna be a Whopper! Are you going to build entirely from that cherry or has an order been put into our friend Jeff? BTW I just ordered some 1/16 boxwood to make the Confeds double beaded moldings - couldn't get a decent result with the basswood. Ben

I would suggest the Syren from model shipways, plenty of logs here on MSW to look at, superb design and instructions from Chuck who is the Administrator of this site. Quality of parts and backup support from MS is superb. It would also be a good step up from where you are now. Ben

Sweet work there Andy, ahhh the joys of rigging, I'm sure you will do a first rate job like the rest of the build. Just keep posting photos for Sjors to keep him sane. Ben

Simply fantastic there Augie, well done reaching that milestone, you must be very proud on how she has worked out. Chuck must feel like a proud father with such a beautiful example of his design being built. Ben

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
