  1. safe travels buddy - I may actually be able to do an update before you get back. ben
  2. Nice Catch and fix on a misaligned frame, Keep checking the plans is becoming one of my Mantra's!! ben
  3. Whoa! Sorry buddy - I didn't want to send you down the rabbit hole, I'm sure whatever you decide will be superb. Please leave a lil of your pension for food and beer, Jeff at hobbymill will survive!!! Ben
  4. Hi, Id have to agree with Russ, the plans could be distorted - is there a scale bar on the plans that you can check with a ruler to see if thats where is issue is? The Rattlesnake I believe is one of MS older designs compared to the current Syren/Confederacy kits which have superb plans and instructions so it could indeed be an issue with the scale plans, I would not worry about it and build with what you have unless you see more problems. ben
  5. Yeh, I've almost finished mine now, just on the rigging now, damn tiny blocks!! But most of my building time ( not much at moment ) is spent in the Confederacy with occasional jumps back to the Longboat. Ben
  6. Hah, I remember the super strength issue, you did a great fix though. I can't wait to start planking the insides. Ben
  7. Hey Rusty, great pics, your capstan, bitts and pumps are seriously beautiful, hope I can do half as well using the laser cut parts as you did scratch building them. Ben
  8. You're a very luck man to have been able to attend that workshop, I wish I could go!
  9. Sorry about the loss of your most impressive build and I hope you do choose to rebuild as you were doing really well. Ben
  10. Yet again a tour de force from Paul, how you make such tiny and detailed components is way beyond me, you have 25x magnification in your Optivisor?? ben
  11. Your a lucky man Jim to be able to attend that workshop, I'd love to but work gets in the way unfortunatly. Excellent work on the first frame and Im sure your build will continue to get even better. ben
  12. Thanks for the clarification guys, I just knew Rusty would not have done it without a reason - thats more like a mistake I would make. ben
  13. Aha! The fight against spiling has finally ended!! I know you will be much happier with your planking results by learning this important technique, we all have to at some point if we are to get better. Ben
  14. Hi Ryland - Glad to see you are reposting your log, I think Chuck just moved mine into this forum as well so we are all a big happy family again! ben
  15. Chuck and Toni - I also broke the stempiece and just left it off until planking was complete, its so fragile i dont know if it can be helped, especially the way the wood grain runs. ben
  16. Hi jason, Yeh - the model expo paints are not very good, Id go back to the Valjeo paints if i was you, Myself I use Newton&Windsor Galleria Acrylics and i paint them on VERY thin, pretty much just a wash, but many many coats with sanding inbetween, I think the titanium white that I used on the hull had about 15 coats over a weeks period. Looking forward to seeing more. ben
  17. Now how did my Longboat log get on this Club build page? Chuck?? I have stepped the mast and im working on the rigging now, some pics this week. Now I have to decide how Im going to display her. ben
  18. Hi Rusty, Everything looks great but I do have a question about something in one of the pics and I dont have a set of the plans to see if its correct. Is something missing? ben
