  1. Again Rusty, thanks for reposting your most excellent build of Confederacy. It was a great trip watching you build her again. I just hope mine won't look like a garbage scow next to yours. Ben
  2. Hi JP. I agree with Russ yet again on this one, unless you have spiled every plank to an exactly correct dimension over its entire length then you will get the creep you are talking about. What I try and do is make it so the very LAST strake across the entire hull ends up having to be just slightly narrower than a normal strip width, then I just use sanding and time to FIT that plank into the gap left, and I cannot see it when I'm finished unless I really look for it, nobody else would every notice. Look forward to you finishing planking milestone, I know you have learned a lot along the way, it will help you so much on you next builds. Ben
  3. Hi Norman, nice to see the progress. I think you can get spray cans in marine oxide from a boat supplier or chandlers. Ben
  4. She's gonna be a big one when rigged and sorry, but I cannot help with the rigging, got too many builds of my own! :-) Ben
  5. Thanks Greg, just bought the drill and tap today at the local model shop as well as a couple of 6-32 screws. May get time this weekend to get that done. Now another question for you guys, what size and materials did you make your building board from, I was thinking some 3/4 inch MDF but suggestions are very welcome. Ben
  6. Love the reference to the "anti spiling revolt ". Look forward to seeing some progress. Ben
  7. Hmmmm - 9 times?? Chuck, RustyJ, ChrisLBren, Hollowneck and Me, Im not counting Andy as he hasnt started yet. Yep - I guess there is far too many Confederacy's floating around Go and join the Victory crowd - theres only a couple of those! ben
  8. Nice work Sjors, you will have to be VERY careful reaching around her now. Ben
  9. Can somebody tell me the drill and tap size that I need for bolting the keel to the build board. Ben
  10. Nice Progress Maury - Nice to hear that it has started to be less delicate, that worries me for when I get to that point with my hands. ben
  11. Here is my first attempt completed, rabbet cut with a V gouge and rising wood installed. ben
  12. Hi Thomas and thanks for reposting your most excellent build log of the Syren, simply stunning work. Ben
  13. Excellent update Sjors, looking mighty fine and very large! Ben
  14. Interesting mounting ideas bob, I still haven't decided what I want to do but you have given me another idea so thanks. Ben
  15. Thanks CRF and Druxey for the advice on the rabbet, first off I am going to try practicing on scrap using my v gouge chisel, if I cannot achieve good results then I will try the scraper. Ben
  16. An update of the Keel. The 0.5mm Rivets were installed as per loaction on the plan. False Keel harris joint was cut and black paper added and then glued to the bottom of the keel. Rising wood took quite a few hours to make using nothing but hand tools and I think it came out ok but we shall see. Now onto carving the rabbit in the keel - The part I have dreaded the most up to now, muck it up and I can throw away several hours of work, but I guess its all good practice anyway! ben
  17. Thanks Mark, I will try to do you and the others proud, I'm already enjoying it more than kit building but don't tell my Confed!
  18. Hi Bob and welcome, nice to have another Longboat here and believe me that without everybody's including your logs this place would not be what it is. Keep up the great work but take it slow, she is a mighty delicate thing until you get some planking on her. Ben
  19. I remember the reversed walkway from before but your catch and fix was excellent. Skid beams are great as well. Ben
  20. Thanks Druxey for the info, bad terminology on my part as I did know they were bolts. I ordered brass scale rivets from scalehardware the same as Greg used, 0.5mm head diameter, but the shaft is 0.034 which is a #80 drill bit and I have no bits or way to drill all the way through, so I printed out the plans and cut out the keel section with a razor, I will use this to mark out both sides and drill them from each side. Ben
  21. Very nice work on the cannons and breechings, I also do like the trademark brass ends to the cannons - different and an effective change in contrast. Now that he who has no name has proclaimed an Aggy build, I can see the Sjorsian wars military buildup is in full swing again and Augie is rattling sabers about a LARGE next build, ho hum! Nice work man and keep it up. Ben
  22. Nice to have you along for the ride Sjors, I hope it will be an interesting voyage for both of us. Ben
  23. Hi Rusty, yeh 3 at at time for the next two weeks, that's how close the longboat is. I bought some scale brass rivets 0.5mm for the keel treenails but I will have to use a #80 drill bit so we shall see how many I break.
