  1. CAPTURED SPANISH SHIPS AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE BRITISH ROYAL NAVY IN THE 18TH CENTURY by Jose Daniel Quijano Master of Arts thesis in Maritime Archaeology at The University of Bristol September 2013 British_Capture_of_Spanish_Ships_in_the(1).pdf
  2. Any good? Or is this another Rattlesnake?
  3. Not sure if I read you. Do you mean the original download source I got it from?
  4. Can't find another image (yet) but you may be tantalised by item 77 on page 36 of this ... b1479729.pdf ... and perhaps a copy exists? HTH Bruce
  5. Rare ship models, marine relics, prints, paintings, maps : an important collection of fine examples of the scrimshawing art & ships' pewter & silver by Anderson Galleries, Inc Publication date 1925 Topics Mr. Coulton Waugh, Ship Model Shop rareshipmodelsma00ande_0.pdf
  6. Thank you John, I have used the time Mediator is off the bench to dig around for more of her history. It has lead me to some mildly surprising conclusions, number one being that there were squillions of small commercial vessels at the time and there were very few records. I am hopeful of finding out more of the circumstances of her loss when I can get back to the National Archives in person, but who knows when that will be?. Been pondering whether to make a ship's boat for her. There is a small work surface in my study I could set aside to tackle the task as a separate model. With winter banging on the door this suits in many ways. Bruce
  7. Hello Dave and a warm welcome to MSW. You will find this is a great place to ask questions and see how other people solved problems. Welcome aboard!
  8. Welcome to MSW, it is a great place. Looking forward to seeing your retrospective.
  9. Welcome to MSW from across the pond.
  10. Sort of an update: Mediator has been on hold because I unexpectedly had to use the work bench for a sudden domestic job. This prompted me to make a box to hold everything in one place until the shipyard is re-installed, hopefully in the next few days. I have sorted out some of the old material that caused me a headache by twisting. It is in the bin. The break from the project has had a positive effect: I am itching to get back to it. Also, the bashed hull has remained stable with no sign of the warp re-appearing or the sub-deck 'pinging' out of place.
  11. Ahhhhhhh .... Well that makes sense. The machine has become self-aware and ... sorry, I just watched a couple of Terminator films. 🤐
  12. Sorry if I was unclear: I did nothing. A notice appeared in my activity log advising me that I had put a marker in the community map when I had not even visited that page. When I followed the link in the activity log notice it took me to the community map page and a marker for me was already there. HTH
  13. So you will know, it just put me in the wrong place. I found a notification in my activity page that I had added a marker (I hadn't) and when I checked it showed my location as NW England. So you will know, in an earlier post there is an image of a map of the UK (perhaps others saw different locations?) and that is where my marker ended up. Bruce
  14. Figure head from Lafitte's Le Gaspillarde, part of an auction in 1938. I will not post the original description due to the dated wording in the text.
  15. At a height of 55 inches it may have been a decoration but I agree it seems short for a figurehead, even on a barge, but that is what the book says ...
  16. I asked the same question, he said 'don't bet on it'. His suppliers don't specify the distinction for generic products but the brands are consistent, so he always orders the same brand + some generic stock. It is a case of 'read the label'.
  17. I was surprised to be told by my pharmacist that there is more than one formulation of surgical spirits. Haven't looked into it in detail but he said some 'spirits' contain an oil and others don't. Since I don't intend to put any on a model I just filed it away in the trivia file but seems it might get important if it is used in a paint. Read the label on your bottle before using this product.
  18. An auction catalogue with an error? Surely not!
  19. From the estate of Nelson Dawson, 1924.
  20. From the estate auction of Commander William Barrett R. N., 1928.
  21. Part of the estate auction of Max Williams, 1928.
