  1. Thank you all for all the likes! I am done making mouldings now. Now, it is time to do some filling and sanding and then to do a little paint work before getting to the inside of the head rails becomes difficult. This will also give me a chance to fix some minor problems elsewhere with the paintwork.
  2. Thank you for all the likes and the comments! I made the first set of mouldings. I will paint the head once I get all of them done.
  3. Don’t feel bad. I made the exact same mistake, which is why I know the difference. At Cornwall Model Boats, the Corel kit is £540 and the Dusek kit is £354. I bought the AAMM plans for La Reale of 1690. It will be a future build. I need to get better at carving.
  4. Sorry for this, the La Reale of 1690 and the the La Real of the Holy League (and is from 1570) were two different vessels from two different nations, which is why the flags and the color schemes are different. They are extremely similar and easily confused. I really like both ships and want both of them in my collection. The Corel kit is the ship from 1690 and the Dusek kit is the ship from 1570.
  5. Well done! I like the cannon. That’s how I make mine. I’m going to be making 18 more for my Victory.
  6. I’ve heard really good things about Dusek’s kits (I’ve never built one, but the La Real Galley is on the list of kits that I would like) and they have a series of kits that are depictions of the Santa Maria (which was a carrack) as well as the Pinta and the Nina (which were caravels). Any of those would be great starter kits. They also have a nice kit of the Golden Hinde. Their Kogge looks nice too.
  7. Frank, Sorry to hear about your Dad. You have my sincere condolences. The model looks awesome!
  8. Welcome!
  9. Welcome! The thing about a lot of those earlier ships is the lack of actual technical drawings so complete accuracy for a given ship could be difficult to come by. Having said that, a caravel, carrack or cog, would make a good starter build as they had relatively simple rigs and were not overly ornamental. They would also make nice display pieces. Something to consider about your Golden Hind is that a model that can’t be completely properly salvaged makes a great learning tool for learning new techniques. I’m doing that with my Victory that has a twisted hull.
  10. Make sure that you wipe down and seal the hull after you clean up the glue (I used a basic clear coat). Otherwise you take the risk of rapid oxidation and possibly getting fingerprints oxidized in the hull from the oils in your skin (I may or may not have learned this the hard way).
  11. Very cool! I like the Oregon sitting in the background. What kit is that?
  12. Once I add the mouldings, I will paint everything made to this point to prevent the problems that will occur If I wait.
  13. I have the middle head rails in place and I added some putty, which is currently drying, to blend in with the wales.
  14. They make nice quick side projects. I always liked historicals and ancients.
  15. And now for something completely different! A 54mm British Infantry Officer from the American War of Independence (AWI): I think it’s a Call To Arms figure, but I’m not really sure. I’m a little out of practice, but I think it came out okay. It just needs some flock around the base after all paint dries.
  16. Quick discovery (read lesson learned), next time I really need to make sure that I get everything square and even. I have a 1/4” difference on the beakhead. I will do better on Triton.
  17. I had to resize and modify the middle head rail on the starboard side due to my failure to account for the 3-Dimensional shape of the head rails. I also made the port side knee for the cathead and installed it. I need it to dry before I can resize the port middle head rail. Slowly but surely.
