  1. I personally like a lot of canvas. I would personally make the staysail. But, that’s just me.
  2. Clinker planking is a pain. I did it for the boats on my Prince de Neufchatel. Take it slow and no throwing your model across the room, lol.
  3. I’ve been putting off working on the head because I didn’t want to build it incorrectly. I’m working at slightly beyond the max of my skill level. However, I learn by doing and the Victory has a twisted hull anyway, which can’t be fixed, so I’m not too worried if I make a mistake during the rest of construction so long as I learn from it. I’m using the rest of this build as a learning tool. I’m learning a lot which I will carry forward to my next builds (like making sure that your bulkheads are square and that your keel piece isn’t warped). The port head timbers are in place. There will be some adjustments to them (Including putty) during construction of the head rails, but they are in place.
  4. I have heard that you need to apply a prestain treatment to basswood to make it take a stain correctly. A buddy of mine who is an excellent woodworker told me that.
  5. Lol, well done! Every single model that I have built has at one point or another become a lesson in adapt and overcome. For me, that’s how I learn and get better. You are doing well and I am looking forward to seeing your progress.
  6. If you can base coat the shield, you can dry brush the ridges and the boss (center). This would be similar to painting a 28mm scale shield (and about the same size). I would personally recommend viewing some YouTube tutorials for miniature painting.
  7. I haven’t built any Caldercraft kits but I’ve heard good things about them. A brig is a good starting point if you are new to the hobby.
  8. I built the Guillows B-17, B-24 and B-25. They were excellent kits.
  9. This is mine: I’ve been using it for over a year now and had no problems with it. I’ll give you a better opinion after I use it to drill the 200 holes for the gunport lid rigging on my Victory. The anchors belong to my Prince de Neufchatel.
  10. I sat in the back seat with mine, the last time I moved them.
  11. Welcome!
  12. Welcome!
  13. I can’t “like” that. That’s always rough when something breaks like that. Just hang in there. At least a top royal and top gallant mast isn’t too hard to remake if absolutely necessary. Your Leopard looks awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing progress.
  14. Thank you for all the likes. I have six of eight head timbers in place and all four holes for the bow gammoning cut. I cut out number seven and discovered that I had beveled in the wrong direction, lol. I glued another drawing to the wood and that’s where it’s sitting now.
  15. I’ve made two more head timbers and installed them. I also cut three out of four holes in the cheeks for the bow gammonings. Quick disclaimer: the head timbers are a lot more perpendicular to the cut water than they appear in the photos.
