Main lower shrouds are in place. I’ll start on the ratlines next time. Then I’ll install the upper shrouds. The fore top mast shrouds also get ratlines. After that comes all of the backstays.

The lower foremast ratlines on the starboard side are on. I know that people usually hate ratlines. It’s always just been part of the process for me. I just sit down and tie them on. I use Elmer’s glue to secure the knots. The hardest part of the rigging, for me, is making all of the deadeyes on the shrouds and backstays line up right. If you look at my first ship models, the Sultana and a Mamoli Endeavour, my deadeyes are all over the place. I’ve finally been getting the spacing issues figured out. I am using a piece of steel wire to set the distance between the deadeyes.

Thank you! I make time at least one day per weekend (more if we have nothing else going on) to spend a significant amount of time on the model. I’m looking forward to seeing progress on your Bluenose. It’s coming along nicely.

I snuck some time in on the model tonight. I finished the forestays: Next time, I’ll hopefully have some pictures of shrouds, rat lines and back stays.

On my last plastic ship, I used the plastic sails as patterns to make cloth sails. It looked really nice when it was done.

Thanks for all the comments and the likes! I’ve been having a lot of fun with this build! It’s been a learning curve, but I’ve been building up my skill set and I’ve gotten a lot better than I was when I started! I’ll be ready to get back to the Victory when I finish, and finish it.

We’ve got masts and we’ve got the start of some stays! I need to make a few more double blocks before I continue. Next, I will install some shrouds and some backstays. Then I get to install some ratlines!

Thanks for all the comments and the likes! I am making progress again. I’ve been attaching deck blocks and more cleats to belay to. The next step is to finish painting the masts and the installed rigging fittings.

I got some work done on the Prince de Neufchatel today. 😃 I made some more cleats for the masts and the main boom. I installed the ones for the masts (I haven’t made the main boom yet). I also permanently installed and rigged the bowsprit.

Help interpreting a belaying plan
GrandpaPhil replied to GrandpaPhil's topic in Masting, rigging and sails
Thank you very much for the information. Yes, I’m going to put sails on the model, so I’ll have to install more eyebolts with the blocks. -
I’m pretty sure that the points I circled (tried to anyways, I’ve never used Mark-Up before) are blocks to tension the running rigging. My question is, are they on the deck and where do I belay them to? Thanks, Phil

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
