  1. "Thanks, Carl. As for the 44, Yachtworld, for some strange reason, crashes Firefox repeatedly. I think the boat gods are telling me something - "If you can't afford to buy, you better fly!" Ah but there is an alternative for that. Not my taste but it'll do the flying part If it must be flush with the deck planking, you make it so it will rest on the plywood, and have the deck planks run against the glass. You will need a "kit"or rubber band to seal the glass from letting through water by the side/bottom/top to finish it, at least in reality
  2. Darn, missed my chance to be a mate on that 44 I know I talk to much. Should remind myself: Less is more, less is more, ...
  3. The match is a bit of an overkill to keep the mast up, Igor. I really like your sails, and the rigging.Wonderful work!
  4. Would have expected gouache (less translucent) instead of water colours. Not heard before, water cloours dryin' up in their tubes, i.e. unless without or with a bad fitting cap ...
  5. Any room left on that 44, an escape to sea seems in order. Forgot to comment on your masterful router prowess. A very crisp job, Julie. Considering your question about the cockpit (strange word), I would expect it to be part of the hull, compared to fitting it afterwards as a loose item. As an integrated part it will give strength to hull itself, where it is weakened to make the space for the pit. In the end it is up to you, keep in mind how you want to finish the deck etc around the the pit
  6. If we haven't been properly introduced, Mr Taylor, I'm Carl ... well lets cut through the chase! Nice work on the carriages. I see you've got your burner at full throttle again. Now don't let Luke, or that Solo chap come to close, else next time you might not have a Deathstar left!!! Good to see you back at the controls again!! Cheers
  7. Good to have you back Chris, hope you enjoyed your holiday with wife and children. Now get to it!!! Make some dust, party time is over
  8. Took you some time to recall what's in your toolbox ... I would have bought the tool, to find out I already had it !!!
  9. Flags ... the persons ... thought them to be at Yamato along side. You still have a ways to go then. I'm setting up a workbench for spraying. Rainy days at last, so no garden chores. Nearly finished so I can pull out the airbrushes and start priming and painting for real.
  10. Marvelous work on her. You are getting good at it mate. To me she seems finished, so surprise us, what's left ...
  11. OOP books have different copy right regulations, those differ also per country. It should be worth looking into those regulations, for it might be that passing a pdf of an OOP book to someone else is not prohibited or prone to copy right infringements ...
  12. As long as you keep a free view from the "wheel pit" you can make it as high as you want. Furthermore, that dip in the deck doesn't need to be as deep as the bottom of the boat ... else you give the helmsman a crate to stand on
  13. I would say death by weathering, an Aussie story. Did you use an awl to mark the spot where you needed to drill? That's what I do on soft materials ... I know I'm somewhat late with it, but you didn't tell me about the missing stanchion dimples
  14. What's taking you so long, mate? A mere 240 <swallow> I've got a few more to go on the beast. I try not to think about it. Haven't been able to do anything on it. "Summer time, when the living is easy" as Porgy from Bess sang, well he certainly didn't have a modern garden, digging a pool, getting plants, tending after the vegetables, (re)paving the terras, and the usual menial tasks to perform besides the standard chores ... She does look a tadd beaten up, and in low maintenance due to lack of time in harbour. You've given her a very nice "touch", a lovely make up job. Looking at the railing you did on Yamato, this will be a walk in the park.
  15. We have to take their drawing prowes into account, Dick. Those ratlines might wll be you ladder ...
  16. Dick, I've seen some modern versions of that equipment from hell, but none of them is fixed between top and bottom. It seems when you were forced to use it, it was sheer determination, and strength of grip to get up, down would be easy ... just let go
  17. hoops or a sling round the mast ... no, that won't work either. Attached to the deck at least ... attached to a stay isn't very logical either ... was it fixed at the top, or pulled up with the sail ...
