  1. No excuses now, Mark - it's all laid out and ready to go! John
  2. Those booms look really good, mate! Can't wait for the next episode. John
  3. Nice to see that the 'Bat' is at least on the bench, Pat. Re your Endeavour - I suppose if the missus had stern words you'd bow to the pressure! John
  4. No pressure, Bob, no pressure, but we're looking forward to seeing it finished! John
  5. Do you have a picture of what you describe, Spyglass? Sounds like an unusual system to me! The usual method of handling the anchor cable on a barrel windlass was for the cable to be taken around the barrel (0ver the top) about three turns. When the anchor was to be let go enough slack of cable would be hauled over to barrel to roughly equal the expected depth of water. John
  6. Looking betterer and betterer, mate! Have you seriously considered alternatives to lead? Lead will eventually corrode and make a heck of a mess. The stuff they use for roof flashing that's replaced lead might be the answer if you need really soft - and it's lead free. John
  7. That ply has really warped, mate - I've never seen that happen. In spite of surreal ply, she's coming on beautifully! John
  8. "Again I am afraid the result is far from elegant!" Your jigs don't need to look elegant - they just need to work! Regarding your frame patterns - can I suggest that you glue them to the frames prior to cutting out to centre section of paper. That way there's lest risk of the pattern distorting when it's glued. You look like you're making good progress. John
  9. You snuck this one in while we were away, Tom. I'll be following with great interest. According to Lyon's 'Sailing Navy List', the NMM have, in addition to the usual class plans, 'as built' plans (including decorations) for three of the class, but unfortunately not the 'Ariel'. John
  10. That's a lovely looking craft you're modelling. I'll be following along with great interest. John
  11. Just catching up after our week away, Michael. Delightful work - as usual! John
  12. Just back from our conference. Thanks for the encouragement one and all. John
  13. Another update on the planking. I've had a bit of extra time at the museum over the New Year period so have been able to get ahead with the planking. The photo show the current state of the model. We're just about to leave for a week long conference up in the Blue Mountains, so I'll see you all again next weekend! John
  14. It will be nice to see a Colin Archer design under way here, Mike. Of course we have the Archer designed yacht 'Kathleen Gillett' here at the National Maritime Museum in Sydney. John
  15. Always nice to see another beautiful yacht model, Patrick. John
  16. It's great to see an update, Caroline. The captain really looks like he's 'holding forth'. John
  17. Great job on the drum detail, Popeye. Considering what happened in the Gulf a few years ago, why not put BP logos on the drums? (Sorry, just my warped sense of humour). John
  18. These old Swedish steam ferries are beautiful boats. Should make up into a great model. John
