  1. Must be the plans. You guys are making this look too easy . Really looks perfect Rusty.
  2. The only other thought would be to cut two new bulkheads....but then you need a wood supply. As far as drinking whiskey, I don't think there's a tutorial on MSW......yet
  3. I think it's a matter of personal preference and skill level JP. In my case I find it a lot easier to find good quality hardwood dowels then it is to find hardwood square stock that's true. At least locally. The bottom line is what makes you happy and how it comes out in the end.
  4. Ah, you've discovered the magic of the sanding block . Well done. Looking forward to updates on your gals.
  5. I must have missed something Frank but whatever is going on you have my thoughts and best wishes.
  6. Oh brother, something is not right and I am clueless. At first I though perhaps the slots in those bulkheads were cut incorrectly but no, that wouldn't help. I hope someone with more knowledge than I chimes in here. You did well to post this question with photos.
  7. If you've ever actually shot a Kentucky Long Rifle, you'll know it was a pretty accurate weapon for it's time. But what really made it special were the folks who knew how to use them.
  8. Going to need some pretty good sized dowels on the Aggie. Hope you've got some good, straight stock Mobbsie.
  9. Thanks for posting this, Chuck. The Practicum looks every bit as comprehensive as what you provided for the Syren. Love the longboats.
  10. I'll send them over when they're done. I need some copper wire....should I send you a penny :D . (Don't blame me...talk to Andy).
  11. I KNEW it !!!! The temptation of multi-tasking was just to great for you to endure. Next you'll be taking a page out of Sjors' book and set off building a multi-national task force to pile up one upon the other
  12. Thanks Daniel, Robert, Popeye and Thomas. Alex and Patrick have my permission to continue their quests to put square pegs in round holes or vice versa. At this point I'm happy with illusions. Speaking of which, immediately after I posted the photo I ran downstairs in panic to check the yards. They are as straight as a carbon fiber arrow shaft but the photo shows a bit of a curve. I suspect the old camera is contracting a case of spherical abberation. Perhaps that's been my problem all along . GRANT - I told you I already had the photo where my yards look like yours ------ without HMS Victory in the background !!!!! Maybe I'll put her on my 'To Do List'. And lastly Kevin - I saw your completion estimate over on your log. Wow ----- and here I am breathing hard after only 1250 hours (which doesn't include the 2000 hours on MSW). Hey - that Lady of yours deserves and shows every minute! Gotta run and go make tiny things....... MARK - Good luck with your upcoming difficulties with the Confederacy guys. Why would anyone want a ship model that's already been built 9 times on the planet? Why just the other day the Base Commander dragged me to a yard sale and there were 6 Agammemnons for sale . Remember I'm the R/C guy who builds them just like the photo on the box (ok, I do add an instrument panel and rivets).
  13. Wow ---- you need 18"+. Well, you could always custom cut a piece of 3/4" plywood. I don't think ceiling tiles will have the strength to make you comfortable. Unless you laminate your foam core board to it
  14. Just a small update. Have gotten started on fabricating the remaining yards. All have now been cut from round dowels, tapered according to the plans (using the drill as 'poor man's lathe) and several of the center sections made octagon in shape using thin wood strips which were cut and beveled to give 8 simulated 'sides'. The method is not as elegant as I've seen from those of you who are able to start with square stock for your yards. But it's my first shot and I am not displeased. I will now be adding cleats then we'll stain everything to see where we stand before adding the glitter (blocks, iron bands and footropes).
  15. I've only seen some photos when Model Expo had it in stock. Should be quite a kit. Best of luck!
  16. Andy- this might be overkill but Tower Hobbies sells a 3/4" thick balsa 'building board' in various sizes. I've attached a link below. I have used them for years for my model airplanes albeit for a different purpose. They have several different sizes/prices. Pretty much rock solid in the 36" length...would easily hold 15 pounds. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVZ63&P=7
  17. Well, after 2 years of wandering about in the dark, I came across this log. Holy cow ----- what an absolute beauty! I salute you, Grant, on your fine craftsmanship and perserverence. Don't tell any Americans but HMS Victory is my all time favorite vessel having had the opportunity to visit her in '79. I will follow along and i'M just sad I got here so late for the party. Ironically, that photo of the yards with the ship in the background is exactly where I am at the moment......without the Victory Will look forward to the balance of your running rigging and her ultimate completion. WELL DONE!!!!!!
  18. AHA - so the cat is out of the bag. You are going to England to hand pick your Aggy. I just KNEW something was afoot!
  19. Just thought I'd stop by and say 'Hi' to my darkside friends. Everyone seems well but Holy Hedgehog, what is that picture???!!!!!! You folks all have a great Easter and keep cranking out the fine work.
  20. April 8th is the big day! Well, in spite of Mobbsie's unbridled exuberance, I shall wish you luck anyway
