now to start on that other odd ball........much smaller than the rest of them. it pictured in the last couple pictures {along with the picture that decided to photo bomb! } the windows that I applied the window maker.....the two housings on the funnel, are now dry. I've touched them up a bit. and as can be seen, the boats have been unmasked.......very minor touch ups will be done, and then they can be stacked {the ones that are to be stacked}. the tops of those two boats will see some white.......the color I dread the most {the ghosts come out.........scary }. the smaller piece is done now. ....and that uses up all of the short sections of railing....if I do any more, I will have to use a full length. I did paint the thwarts in the ship's boats....it's hard to tell with them stacked like this. it can be seen though in the lone one, and the ones on top. the tops are painted with a single coat of flat white.........I was going to use light Ghost gray.........would have had the same outcome? nawwwww.......that would be like calling the kettle black I have also done some painting on the deck.

here are some progress pictures from the other day. I wish I have more time with her.......could have gotten a lot further. I began with the planes....they got the second coat on the wings beforehand......I painted the stabilizers and rudders. I'll get to the cowls later. there were a couple more levels to the structure that I still needed to trim off the railings. as mentioned, it was dependent on whether or not I had enough 1:350 railings. well damn the torpedoes I say.........'tis enough that I have a few other pieces that I've already put the knife to here is one of them that I started to apply the railings. wait!........this other part is sandwiched under this level. it did not see the knife, since I saw too little of bare railing detail. I left it with solid casements. ....already painted so I wouldn't miss hard to reach places the other parts I mentioned are shown here.........if I were to ask you for any parts Ziggy, the parts for the tops would be it. I have been trying to square up all the windows, but it seems that I'm not winning the battle. I may fiddle with them a little more, but I'm afraid this is what I'm left with. this level was trimmed in three places. so far, I'm working with the odd cut of railings.......I've only used one full length......got a bunch of short sections with the PE. noting that some of the railings differ, I'm making sure to use the same type for each level.....it won't look so weird as can be seen, I'm using the dowel method to bend the railings.......also to smooth out any CA puddlings.. it was then time for one of the two odd pieces to be done. lots of bends to this little bugger! while 'anti me' is fumbling with that, I'll show you what I've done with the ship's boats. first they were painted battleship gray. the two boats with the cabins were assembled and masked off with the others. the bottoms were painted with the primer red antifoul. .....OK Anti Me.......time to go back into the black hole........looks like your finished .....three sections you say..........well, you did a great job of hiding the seams. I'm proud of you! tell Andromeda I said hello............🔭

I have those images and probably a couple more. if you look into some of the links I posted, you'll see a lot more. they received another model of the Arizona since you last visited......this one was suppose to have dispelled the question of her paint at the time of Pearl. I kinda ran with it for a while, mixing different shades of gray to see if a bluish hue could be derived. a while after I had given up the quest, and the paint I had mixed turned to jelly, I made a discovery. under certain camera angles, Battleship Gray changes to a bluish hue. with this new bit of knowledge, I decided to go with the battleship gray and repaint her. by all means......do a log on the memorial.......it will look much better than that bronze diorama you've shown I don't think the tide goes that low.

I had no idea about the changes in the newer kits.....Revell / Germany is beginning to reproduce some of these older kits. I'm pleased about it.......I've sent in numerous requests for them to continue their production. something about the 1:96 scale kit.........they felt so easy to build, and the detail is really good. yea, they did have some discrepancies, but in the old days, I paid little attention to some of the fine points that were missing in the kit.

the confusion wasn't from you Rob........ as for the picture, I though there was a spanker on the Mizzen?! perhaps that's not a feature commonly seen on a clipper? superb picture

it confused me for a bit........I realized that this is a four master, and with no yards associated with the fourth mast {if memory serves me right}, the braces can follow the normal routing. it took me some time to catch up with your log Rob.......I haven't been able to visit the scratch forum for quite some time. I'm going to have to continue a log here so I can visit more often {take my pick } . with a conventional clipper, there are around 35 sails, including the studding sails........there is a second spanker for the fourth mast {I forget the name of it}. you have put some serious millage on this log....very impressed with what you've done with her! so you like that Revell thread too........I do as well. I sent in to Revell, to see if I could purchase some.........found out that I can't get any and they don't sell it. they should...........the buggers. there is two sizes of tan thread.........I have some from the Cutty build, and I have the supply to do the United States and the Constitution........other than that, it's all I got so if I mess up, I'll be in the same boat as you. best bet would be to watch E-Bay, and see if any surfaces there. anyway.........some really great progress and a very well done ship indeed........so glad your feeling better! I also noticed the reference to the scale. I thought that you primarily used the 1:96 Cutty as your base hulls......I see that this ship is a different scale. did you use another kit to base this ship on?

thanks for the continued interest.......I know I haven't been flowing with the updates. this week {end} of mine has been busy........I've finally found a bit of time to devote to her. these past few days though, I've noticed that I crushed some of the railings on the second level from all the handling, and I've worked to fix them. now that I have them repaired, I need to get this on the deck, so I don't have to handle it any more. this puts the squeeze play on getting the deck straightened out and painted. so I guess I need to get my fanny perpendicular, and get busy with it admirable Ziggy that your going to do the memorial........probably should have switched gears on mine {I was almost there} no.....I won't give up. I think with the mods I'm doing, it might end up an interesting model. a major part of me says sure......send 'em my way, but I would post them in the buy / sell forum to see if anyone else needs them. I'm not too sure who else is building this kit. thanks for the offer....I think your going to fit right in with everyone here........welcome to MSW

you weren't thinking of having figures on board, were you? it would be a nice touch, but to find nurses in the proper attire would be daunting to say the least. you did a great job there

these types of fishing vessels do call for the bulwark posts to be removed. I thought you mentioned earlier that you had done it.......I see the ones at the bow and stern have been removed. hopefully you didn't cement the bulwark panels to them......it will be a clean cut. I have only done a couple ships where I did this. to me it gives a good cement point for the cap rails. I have seen though that on some kits, the existing posts aren't even or equal, making the inner bulwark look shabby. on one of my models I cut them off and used strip stock to replace them, so they would look the same all the way back and still give me the ability to cement the cap rails on firmly. on some ships of this type, the instructions may have you do this after the deck is planked. why....I have no idea.......it's not that hard to trim planks to fit the bulwarks. read ahead in your instructions...it's the best way to avoid surprises

no coat are coming for you Yves........can't prove you lost it yet. to be certified, you need to insist that the changes in your behavior is normal........and that everyone else around you are strange. secondly........your aware of the changes, and that would indicate that you still have sound mind. nice try........keep modifying nice work by the way!

very nice job on the weathering.....looking very good! looks like your finished as well.....congratz on another fine project!

superb job!..........she's not a bad ship to build, but is rather complex in the rigging cases do take up a lot of room, but saves the model from an early demise {sometimes the cleaning can be unbearable}. I'll be sure to look up your Chaperon project........I have one too, languishing on my other table. one day I'll get back to her fine looking model!

I've seen them around.........especially the older Aurora kits I've never done one, but I would agree that the flocking needs to be sifted onto the model. I have a project coming up that has four horses.........don't think I'm gonna try it for fear of ruining them. I don't recall seeing any Zombie Squirrels on the Walking Dead

thanks to all for the kind comments and the likes. the best thing, was that there are no extras........I kept piling till it was all gone I still have to get rid of a few branches in the spare room though..........and even the admiral likes how it looks. I'd love to get another one and do it in a different color. a couple more work days........then I perhaps put the finish on him

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
