make sure the home is secure before you do.......do what you need to do........then you'll be able to continue your build, on an even keel. I'll look forward to your updates.....

I never knew that Guillow's produced ship kits.......I built a few of their plane kits back in the day. is there any sort of dating on the box, or instructions? I'll have to do some digging when I get home tonight......looking up stuff like this is really neat! LOL! the only first observation I could make with this kit, would be to be very careful with sanding.......try not to use too rough a grit. great find!

noooo........I think you have the right build......this will set you up for that REAL build that's in the back of your mind. push the limit......your handling it quite well. the woolings look very good. now there are some that will step the mast after the lower shrouds are complete. the masts are done in sequence....lower stays, and such. makes it easier to do the shroud lines........are you going to go this route, or complete the entire mast tree....like I did with my Goth? sometimes I wish I had gone the other route, but I have just started on the shrouds.........the only problem I've had is that the first shroud line is a bit thicker than all the rest. your kit is at 1:50.......with mine, which is 1:100 {I wish it was bigger}, I stained some of the f-72 thread with India Ink for the main standing rigging. for the rest of the smaller thread, I went to the craft store {jeweler's dept} and found some black beading thread that will work quite well. the one on the left is a bit thicker, so I may use that one for the shrouds.....there wasn't a selection when I first saw them......there are three different sizes. the one thing that I'm not too crazy about with the Billing's thread, is the fuzz factor. I have bees wax, but I have seen what it looks like, should the need arrise that the rigging needs to be corrected a few times.......it can become a mess. so I perfer not to use it if I can get away with it. there are a lot of different threads out there today........many better alternatives. nice paint Phil.......keep chipping away.......looking great!

it's as I mentioned........only one model can be worked on at a time. I started this a long time ago. I used to have a berthing shelf on the wall near the table, where I would put the ship I was working on to clear the kitchen table. when I started the hobby back up.......up went the shelf again {we had moved since then}. when we moved here there is a hallway that only goes to our front door. it's closed off, so it is a dead space......no dust. it's a perfect place to store the ones in progress I just threw up the two bottom shelves....I'm going to lower them to accept masted ships. we only go out there to get the mail.

very nice set-up is that a K.O.A. ? I remember taking a trip to Tennessee back in my Fla days....married to my first wife. we stayed at one of these.........at one part of it, there was a cliff.......looking out, you could see the entire valley, so cool! I don't see your ship on the table ..........must not be playtime yet

to add what others have said...........that's why scratch building is so much fun........the add-ons and after thoughts! of course it looks rough.........you'll show us the sense of it all when your finished! you've got a great subject to do this to........your having fun......and that's what it's all about!

she missed you john........although I think a more subtle way of showing it would have been better. that's what happens when we breathe life into our builds........they take on a life of their own. great to have you back John.....I missed talking to you

it's a wonderful concept Ferit..........it would probably be better built into the wall with light wired direct. I can see that as a very nice corner hutch.......or one that would line a wall

it is quite beautiful though..........the admiral has been lurking in the online yard sales that have sprung up {I've never seen them before}. she has found a couple of really nice cabinets........but the idea of the double doors ruins the view inside. now if she could find some old meat cases........or even old store display cases.........now that would be cool!

they look good now Sjors........your fidgeting has really paid off. getting them just right is hard to do. as long as your happy with them, they will stand the test of time nice job!

that's actually a neat idea........if the plans are good, you could do a scratch build down the road and fit 'er out differently. I got a bunch of old model mags that my friend Harold gave me.........in them are at least several different PT boat builds.......great stuff!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
