  1. make sure the home is secure before you do.......do what you need to do........then you'll be able to continue your build, on an even keel. I'll look forward to your updates.....
  2. I never knew that Guillow's produced ship kits.......I built a few of their plane kits back in the day. is there any sort of dating on the box, or instructions? I'll have to do some digging when I get home tonight......looking up stuff like this is really neat! LOL! the only first observation I could make with this kit, would be to be very careful with sanding.......try not to use too rough a grit. great find!
  3. did you just change your avatar? must be getting ready for the fall season
  4. noooo........I think you have the right build......this will set you up for that REAL build that's in the back of your mind. push the limit......your handling it quite well. the woolings look very good. now there are some that will step the mast after the lower shrouds are complete. the masts are done in sequence....lower stays, and such. makes it easier to do the shroud lines........are you going to go this route, or complete the entire mast tree....like I did with my Goth? sometimes I wish I had gone the other route, but I have just started on the shrouds.........the only problem I've had is that the first shroud line is a bit thicker than all the rest. your kit is at 1:50.......with mine, which is 1:100 {I wish it was bigger}, I stained some of the f-72 thread with India Ink for the main standing rigging. for the rest of the smaller thread, I went to the craft store {jeweler's dept} and found some black beading thread that will work quite well. the one on the left is a bit thicker, so I may use that one for the shrouds.....there wasn't a selection when I first saw them......there are three different sizes. the one thing that I'm not too crazy about with the Billing's thread, is the fuzz factor. I have bees wax, but I have seen what it looks like, should the need arrise that the rigging needs to be corrected a few times.......it can become a mess. so I perfer not to use it if I can get away with it. there are a lot of different threads out there today........many better alternatives. nice paint Phil.......keep chipping away.......looking great!
  5. I didn't win the lottery............400-some odd million!......three winners! what I coulda done with a cut of that! I'll just keep trying.......one day my ship will come in you probably heard it from some of my other builds Andy.........
  6. it's as I mentioned........only one model can be worked on at a time. I started this a long time ago. I used to have a berthing shelf on the wall near the table, where I would put the ship I was working on to clear the kitchen table. when I started the hobby back up.......up went the shelf again {we had moved since then}. when we moved here there is a hallway that only goes to our front door. it's closed off, so it is a dead space......no dust. it's a perfect place to store the ones in progress I just threw up the two bottom shelves....I'm going to lower them to accept masted ships. we only go out there to get the mail.
  7. very nice set-up is that a K.O.A. ? I remember taking a trip to Tennessee back in my Fla days....married to my first wife. we stayed at one of these.........at one part of it, there was a cliff.......looking out, you could see the entire valley, so cool! I don't see your ship on the table ..........must not be playtime yet
  8. to get a bite.......or to get bitten.........isn't outdoor life great! 100 more........and I can sit with you and Sjors
  9. now..........THAT looks georgious! I love the way the rudder came out.......fantastic workmanship! the copper seams fit really well
  10. to add what others have said...........that's why scratch building is so much fun........the add-ons and after thoughts! of course it looks rough.........you'll show us the sense of it all when your finished! you've got a great subject to do this to........your having fun......and that's what it's all about!
  11. she missed you john........although I think a more subtle way of showing it would have been better. that's what happens when we breathe life into our builds........they take on a life of their own. great to have you back John.....I missed talking to you
  12. it's a wonderful concept Ferit..........it would probably be better built into the wall with light wired direct. I can see that as a very nice corner hutch.......or one that would line a wall
  13. very nice progress so far Phil........yea.....model makers do leave out lots of the added detail. it's left to the builder as to just how much more to add........your doing a great job of it!
  14. it is quite beautiful though..........the admiral has been lurking in the online yard sales that have sprung up {I've never seen them before}. she has found a couple of really nice cabinets........but the idea of the double doors ruins the view inside. now if she could find some old meat cases........or even old store display cases.........now that would be cool!
  15. they look good now Sjors........your fidgeting has really paid off. getting them just right is hard to do. as long as your happy with them, they will stand the test of time nice job!
  16. thanks Bob.......I'm bare foot'in it today! when i was a kid.......it was hell keep'in shoes on me thanks Michael........just hoping I can get the port side the same as the starboard....so far.......so good
  17. hang onto 'em for thirty days..........if nobody claims him.....he's YOURS!!!
  18. that's actually a neat idea........if the plans are good, you could do a scratch build down the road and fit 'er out differently. I got a bunch of old model mags that my friend Harold gave me.........in them are at least several different PT boat builds.......great stuff!
