  1. Yes, Claire; worth re-reading from time to time. A wonderful imaginary world.... Bless your great-aunt for giving you that gift.
  2. Might I suggest off-white? Bright white does not look good at scale size. And I presume that this wonder material can be painted to any other wood color the builder fancies.
  3. Ah, Wind in the Willows. A delightful book for all ages! “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” And yours is the most comfortable dory ever seen.
  4. Constraining the quarter blocks using a lashing contrasts with British practice: they used cleats to prevent the blocks from moving out. Beautifully done.
  5. Perhaps, when the atmosphere is right and things tighten up, a little shellac. If you use matte medium, the water content will sag the lines. Test one line first before committing!
  6. Congrats on completing the framing, Chuck. Looks very, very nice indeed! Your problem-solving talent is really impressive.
  7. What Allan and Bob recommend I completely agree with. Uncased, the model is also exposed to prying fingers, careless dusters and other hazards. She deserves a good protective case!
  8. A hoy may have been rigged in a similar manner to a yacht, but the hull was a bluff, boxy shape for carrying supplies shore to ship; definitely not built for speed!
  9. Whoops! I missed the earlier maquette photos. Excellent job, Mark. Sculpey does not shrink in firing.
  10. Keep pasting on the ochre on all the joints you wish to protect. Or, if you mean soldering three pieces together in the same spot, you either need to solder them simultaneously or use a lower melting point solder for the second pass to attach the third piece (can be tricky!)
  11. Also, consider making a maquette in modeling clay first to figure out the figure in 3D. It will help a lot!
  12. Sometimes cannon were lashed parallel to and against the side when not in use. Perhaps this was the case here?
  13. Welcome aboard, fellow Ontarian.
