If you need help finishing off the bottle, post a notice. I'm sure there will be volunteers. LOL I like the idea of the sled for the base to hold the bottle.

Plating and paint can hide a lot of "sins". Your hull is looking great for sanding, paint?, and coppering.

Thanks for the likes and comments. Sadly, the other side isn't looking as good. Trying to clean up the mess removed some of the line of the planking. <sigh> Looks like this will be "back" side of the display. Still need touch ups..... Edit... forgot the photos. Here they are.

Staining rigging to match the miniature model

To the best of my knowledge, the synthetics can't be dyed. They're a filiment and not fibers. -
RFM 1/35 Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf.G-Finished

I hope you, your family, and son have a great time together. As for the tank.. I'm not sure the Germans painted their tools. The paint would wear off the metal pretty quick in use, but wooden parts I think where just oiled or varnished. -
Here's a trick for the taping. Apply the tape and then brush on some matt varnish over the seam and extend it a bit onto the tape and the surface to be painted. When dry after applying the paint, carefully remove the tape.

One way to make handling these easier during installation is get some tiny dowels (wooden toothpicks with the point clipped off work). Dip the end of the toothpick into to some molten beeswax (just melt it, don't boil it). When cool, use the waxed end of the stick to pick up and put the parts into place. When the sticky stuff stops sticking, toss it and use a fresh one. Easy and cheap to make.

Staining rigging to match the miniature model
mtaylor replied to BrankoSNY's topic in Masting, rigging and sails
Not to pick a fight, but I would not suggest tea. It is acidic and will over time destroy the rigging. There are an abundment of cloth dies available if dying your own rope is what you want to do. -
One would have been for senior officer's use depending the ship and time period. On some, junior officer's heads were littterally at the head of the ship. On many ships, one gallery was for the Captain's exclusive use... some used it for a private office. As I said, a lot of variation and depends on the ship. Be a bit more specific to era, nation, and better which ship and answers can be more specific.

Take one into your local hardware store. They usually have gages to check size and proper threads to match what you have with what they sell.

Welcome to MSW, Dan. When the Dory is finished, feel free to post some pictures of the finished model in the gallery. And on Pram, by all means start a build log. It's the best way to meet other builders and also get help when you need it.

Finally have the port side done with painting and touch ups.. more touch ups, ad infinitum ad nauseum. So here's two pics. I've turned the hull around and started the yellow on the starboard side. All things considered, I'm pretty pleased with the result so far.

Road trip!!!!!! However, you may want to wait a few months until the snowy season is over.

I was thinking what Keith thought about the stack. Some did swivel but you'd never, ever want one set up for the wind to blow into it. Kit technology and research have improved very much. The older kits, particularly cerain manufacturers, never bothered to put much time into research for a kit. Just follow the advice of the build log and give it your best shot.
-
Jaager gave some good advice. As for "kits".... Syren, Vanguard, probably CAF. The catch is, by the time you're ready for the next model, there will probably be new ones with huge improvements over some of the older firms models.

Ah... as senior moment explains it all. Too many of us are having them. Myself included.

It all looks good from here for things. As for the ship, been touching up paint, finishing adding some parts (trim) to the hull. Hopefully I can get the ochre on tonight and tomorrow and do an update before things get really hectic.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
