  1. Had a Captain like that in 'Nam. Was grunt but for some reason they put in an aviation shop. Had people saluting, dusting the rafters in the hanger and polishing the concrete floor in the shop. Always had starched jungle utils and spit shined combat boots. He was the bane of everyone's existence. After I rotated home and discharged, I heard he got not so gentle wake up call that involved explosives.
  2. Welcome to MSW. I think your tools you showed will be a tad too large for a model.
  3. I'm just curious, is there anyplace left that will sell boxwood in a size less than a huge billet? Even a 2X4 is too large for me to mill. I'm not looking for a large quantity just a few sheets for my stock.
  4. I have found it strange that often ships think they are airplanes and try to fly. You're doing well on this build.
  5. Eric, Your log has been a wonder ride. Thanks for letting us follow on the trip. I'm looking forward to the final photos. Pics on the river bank sounds iintriguing.
  6. No CNC machine here but I have a mill. I just haven't justified the cost of converting to CNC as I can pretty much do what I want with the CNC. I do have a laser cutter and it's been worth the money, the learning curve, etc.
  7. If no one has one, there's a link to Amati on the home page. On their website, the "contact us" is lower right hand side. I hope you can get the instructions.
  8. Thanks for the information. Very helpful. Maybe I've been doing it wrong then.... brandy, irish creme, or coffee... pick one as I rotate my vises.
  9. Beautiful work, Keith. The brass is visually a nice touch and probably stronger. Stupid question perhaps, will you be doing the china and silver placesettings?
  10. The plan (your last photo and the second photo are the clues) is a electronic wiring diagram. As far as I can tell, it's not all the wiring as in a schematic but more of one to show the runs of the cables. Now whether or not "Genova" is the name of the ship, I have no idea. Was he a ship's electrician? Or maybe damage control? The "chit" might similar to what many of carried in Vietnam. What we had was a "Geneva Convention Card" which stated military person and some info. I'm thinking that was similar so if he ended up (maybe if the ship sank?) and he was rescued by locals, it would help get him back to the allied lines/forces. I hope someone with the answer will pop in.
  11. Do that one and the car will have to live in the driveway instead of the garage.
  12. Wonderful work, OC. Anyone ever notices the antenna, (they won't) tell them "bird strike" during the last mission.
  13. That is amazing work on the dashboard. Scarily amazing. My eyes would be crossed and my mouth turning the air blue trying to do that.
  14. Welcome to MSW, Steven.
  15. Hello, Geo. Welcome to MSW. When you're ready, open a build log in the Scratch area and use the keyword "RESTORATION" in the title. This looks like a fascinating project.
  16. Wow... first plastic and PE and so darn tiny. Just Wow.... looking like you've doing this for years.
  17. Marc, I'm enjoying this bit of a tutorial and I'm happy it's not a video. Seems if I watch a video it's almost impossible (for me anyway) to study what was done and how. If Scotch helps with the carving, what brand? Enquiring minds and all that.
  18. Per the site given it appears to be 8mm for the hole diameter. Many of us do as we either didn't know of the Byrne's saw or it wasn't around when we bought our MM table saw. Not a great saw, but not a bad one either.
  19. Steve, Put your list of stuff you want to sell, give away, barter for, etc. here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/41-traders-dealers-buying-or-selling-anything-discuss-new-products-and-ship-model-goodies-here-as-well/
  20. Not sure where you are, Todd, but if you're where you get snow, remodeling costs usually drop pretty sharply during the winter as no one wants they're house a mess over the winter holidays.
  21. Jaager brings up a good point. I hope you have plans for heating and air conditioning in the He Shed.
  22. Thanks EG. I was avionics and so didn't see the guns being set up. Makes sense that there some tools and expertise involved.
  23. True about being torn away but it wouldn't have a quarter of the ship. I think the name has more to do with being attached to the officer's quarters, but that's my thought. The hull planking went all the way to the stern. A small doorway was cut for access (smaller than normal) and quarter gallery framing was added and then planked with "thinner" material than the hull planking.
