It's really great to see you back, Hamilton. What the others have said about exercises.... push yourself. The result will be worth the pain. Bluenose is coming along nicely.

There's one other factor often overlooked... the crews and sailing time. At the time of Belle-Poule's battle, the French navy wasn't bottled up at it was a few years later. All classes of warships suffered from lack of sailing time and crew training as well as maintenance. The Navy wasn't a priority to Napoleon or his Royal predecessor. If we look at the battle preparations for Trafalgar, the French lost even before the first shots were fired. The Admiral couldn't implement his line of battle as the crews didn't have the sea time to carry it out. If the vessels had been in good repair and the crews experienced, both the Battle of the Nile and Trafalgar might have turned out differently.

Somehow, I missed a bunch of this log.... must be old age or weak coffee... That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. Nice to see the progress, Carl. She's looking pretty darn good. Perfect in fact.

Cloth, paper or plastic? If cloth, use starch and a mold such as on tin can cut open and shaped for the sail.

Hi Shawn, Welcome to MSW. A wise man once said, "The day I stop learning, is the day i'm dead.". I quite agree as around here, we all seem to learn something everyday. By all means, open a build log. The help alone will go far in assisting your getting your skills to grow.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
