As it turns out Bismarck originally had the catwalks and railing. These were removed at her one and only refit.

So depending on the time frame either would be correct.

Well.. that explains it. Thanks Henry.

Hey Willz, yes I was going to go with alclad but tamiya was  available at my local hobby shop.  Had I known how horrible it was I would have ordered alclad.

So I finished shading, assembly, then I installed the funnel/hangers onto the ship, here are a bunch of photos. In some photos the paint looks unshaded. thats just the desk lamp, I usually shut it before photos but forgot.  Also the tamiya "flat aluminum" in the first photo looks way worst in person. It looks like the German sailors bedazzled there smoke stack.

I found this  organizer in the trash, i love it!

IMG_1411.thumb.JPG.07cd1fe7c1c284b05978f00c705b9898.JPG

so now begins the 3rd part of the super structure. I begin with marking out what has to go for the PE to replace it with both MK1 and Pontos.

I'm  going to keep the stock louvers considering how good they look and what a pain in the butt the pontos louvers are to assemble

IMG_1415.thumb.JPG.78e069f1e4993a94088a3705a2dbe975.JPGJust a quick  no on the differences between MK1 and pontos instructions, I enjoy working with pontos instructions mich more.

And also the "Arado hanger rails" im also not going to bother. I dont think it's worth the effort  considering a lot of it is hidden. IMG_1418.thumb.JPG.fba558fb505f12c4923508fd8fe4834d.JPG

that's all for today folks.  Happy new years! And may the best of 2017 be the worst of 2018.

Looking brilliant. Great kit this as are the other Trumpeter kits. Love your attention to detail. So much PE.

I am building the USS Missouri alongside my main model from the same kit makers and have lots of PE. I have built other kits with PE but I usually get bored with it and give up half way through as I have with the Prince of Wales and Yamato.

On the other hand I can spend hours adding small details on wooden models and never get bored with it. Probably because I know it will take around three years + to build.

Interesting, I would get bored with a slow build, and build a "quicky" on the side to fuel my interest

I tried that Carl.......that's what got me to where I am today  :D    not the bored part though....sometimes it's good to have something to work on while glue or paint dries {now that's the boring part ;) }

glad to hear your wanting to dive into a wood build.   for so long,  I used to look at them and feel daunted by them.  they looked so good.....but I would still be hesitant.   I had to have one land in my lap,  to show me that I was just being silly  ;)

is the funnel and aft structure cemented on the deck?   looks darn good my friend!   very nice work!

sorry if I made you second guess in any way.   if you are done with that part of the structure,  by all means,  it should be cemented in place.   that's a milestone in itself.......calls for a celebration ;)    it's nice to see a project grow.    really like the direction your going with this project  :)

Coming on nicely. If you are thinking wood for your next kit, of those you mentioned the  Agamemnon would be my personal choice.

Thanks Paul. I've narrowed it down further to the Agamemnon, Syren and the Diana but add the Pegasus. I'm also leaning towards the Agamemnon, being big has a lot to do with it, I love big models. Of course I imagine all the tools I've built up for Plastic modeling would be useless. I would have to buy a lot of expensive tools ( I don't mind though it's money well spent:))

hey Peter I was also thinking that. It's glued to the ship but I could just paint with a small brush. less of that horrible "flat aluminum" to look at can't be a bad thing.

so today I get up, set up all my tools and get to work on the bismarck.  10 minutes into it I'm just not feeling it and don't really want to work on the model right now. ( the 30 hour shift I just worked didn't help) So I just put everything away, now I feel like it's a wasted day of progress.  Maybe I'm just strange...

Know how that feels, you are just as strange as all of us modellers. Who hasn't done that.

As great as this modelling business is there are times when helps to say enough is enough and have a rest. By pure coincidence, I have just done the same. I was adding hand rails and the simplest of tasks was proving frustrating. I persevered with them and started making silly mistakes so will start again next weekend.(I find a week not touching the model helps).

Agamemnon is a big kit, lots of work on cannons, but the other kits are also very good as well.

as for tools you will be pleasantly surprised how many of those you already have will be ideal for working in wood as well as plastic.  You will have the needle files, clamps, scalpels, Etc. and will just need a few extras.

I got an early start today. Its also a 3 day weekend do i hope to get alot done after taking last weekend off.

I started today glueing brass components onto a ship piece. Its a mix of Pontos and MK1.

Then I painted. Ill wait 24 hours before shading.

IMG_1458.thumb.JPG.de52e44c28a04f38ea9bd07b18df8f6a.JPG

next is the bigger of the 2 pieces. It will be the same process.

IMG_1448.thumb.JPG.29e90241a81960462a45bded9d523bad.JPG

For some unknown reason I really love this piece of conduit.

IMG_1450.thumb.JPG.2f6ac15e0a6bafce5380d6519e26a670.JPG

Also these. Such detail!

And finally I love the hose reel. The piece just stack up building a hose reel.
