@mtaylor  And others  I have just found this bit of writting about  Shako  Plumes   -  I Quote

The plumes were liked by Napoleon, in some early fight, he discovered that the tall color plumes magnified his soldiers' appearance and caused the enemy to fire too soon and too high. The soldiers like the plumes during parades and generally in peacetime.
In combat, however, they thought that the color plumes attracted far too much attention from enemy's artillery and skirmishers. It was also impossible to hide in tall crops and surprise the enemy with a sudden attack. The enemy saw your tall plumes before you saw him.

So you wasn't far off Mark.

The original maker of the glass case  came out to collect the second broken one  - he was going to repair it and bring it back out to us  - it was not fair on him doing that so I to him to call it quits  and keep the money I had paid in good faith to cover all his costs.

I found a larger  plastics (acrylics)  company  and did an online  request  got a quote  accepted  it  - it took about Three weeks to make  and  deliver.

Its been an expensive  endeavour  for a  display case  - deffo  a One Off.

OC, do they include a drummer boy? Just about everything I've read about French attacks, they beat out the "Pas de Charge" for the assaulting units. Don't know if you get that deep into units. Drummers may have been kept further back, outside the range of your dio..

I have a couple in my stash  - I will have to find out if any where close to LHS  during the attacks  - I have not read anything  so far  about any drummers  being involved in the attack.

There would have been some drummer boys, usually behind the Eagle and possibly on the flanks of the column.

There was that famous incident at Hougoument, when the French got into the courtyard, then the Guards Regiment (Coldstream I think) closed the gates and slaughtered all the French troops except the drummer boy😉

That's probably a good idea, OC.  Drummers were used not just to set the pace while marching but also to relay commands to the troops during battle as they usually could be heard over the din.   Commands such as "attack", "retreat", were pretty common up until WWI.

Some news  (exciting I hope)   when I have finished these bunch  and now possibly the drummer boy  -  I will be  (wait for it)..........be starting on the  farm complex - base - scenery, I will have to rearrange the table  to create more room  as the base is quite large at 3 feet  by nearly 2 feet, and I still need room for my lamp.

Hiya Kevin,   no mate  still a fair way to go yet  - I am about  a Third of the way  there  - I am hoping to make about  100-150  figures, it will be quite busy  in the space I have  - but that was how it was  back then.

Thanks Ken,   I am quite looking forward to  working with MDF  its all laser cut  but I will super detail it  as Its  a bit 2 dimensional, I will  be adding a floor in the farm house  - so I can put some of the figures firing from the  bedroom windows,  also with some of the brick detail (its flat  so I will try to show the mortar lines better)   I will probably work on  each section  while they are flat  before I  glue the sections together.

Then there will be the painting/weathering  to do.

Just catching up OC and I see you’re progressing nicely.  The figures are terrific as expected and that extra face shading really makes a difference.  At your level of detailed perfection, it does not surprise me that you can only complete 6-8 per week.

After all the problems with the glass case(s) it must feel good to finally be in possession of an undamaged display case.  I think switching to acrylic was a good choice and I look forward to watching the building of the structures and scenery.

Evening all,   I gave in  - couldn't help it  so I have relented and taken some more pics of my progress  (I'm sure you don't mind)   -  I finished detailing the  muskets then I gave them including the hands a wash to bring out the shadows, after  I attacked the gaiters  (these were not going to be great  as the moulding  was actually just trousers so a while back I tried to scrape and file the lower area of the leg - below the knee  to show where the gaiter would hold the trouser bottom In)   I painted a few layers of Black to just below the knee  but left Two of them with there trousers intact (they had lost there gaiters in the battle).

I then used my lighter skin colour back on the  hands to highlight them mainly on some of the fingers palm of the hands and knuckles,  just the buttons and the cocade  on the shako  then It will be time to work on the backs containing the haversacks and coat tail details / ammo box  sabre etc.

Hi all,  a bit more progress tonight  - I had painted the last of the details on the bodies inlcluding the Shako Cocade  Tri colour version, then the brass buttons on the  jacket and  cuffs,   then I started on the back packs  -  first thing I had to do was trim a small amount of the tails from the jacket bottoms as  they had the  shorter versions, then after a clean up  they were glued in place.

The first stage of the painting is the Grey coat  on the top of the back pack, then a small bit of Red  detail tooked away between the ammo box and the sabre,  more to follow.
