Just a little update. I was able to complete the bowsprit and spritsail this weekend.

 

On to the Mizzen Mast next.

I've been grabbing a bit of shop time here and there and have been working on the masts.

To work on the masts I obtained a new Proxxon MF 70 mill. Tools, gotta have tools!

Anyways it came in very handy when shaping the square ends on the masts.

I've been able to grab a little shop time here and there.

 

I've completed the main mast and yards now. I've attached the brace and lift lines to the Main Topgallant Yard as well the lines to the main yard.

 

 

 

 

 

On to the foremast now.

With my expanded work schedule unfortunately rigging will go slowly. With one day off a week it leaves little time available. When rigging I don't like to jump in and out with a half hour here, forty five minutes there. I prefer to have a couple of hours at a time so I can "get in a grove".

I've started the rigging with the bowsprit first. I mounted the bowsprit and then the gammoning.

The spritsail was then attached. The running rigging was then added. The ends were tied off with

the extra line left attached in case adjustment

 

 

 

was needed later on.

I note from the date interval of your postings that things still may be a bit hectic for you on your outside duties. I have to believe this is an escape for you.

 

You were a subject of conversation with the NJ modelers group last night. The highlight speaker failed to show so Ryland brought up the 2014 NE Conference pictures and there you were! You make such an impression with your modeling everywhere.

Thanks Joe. Yes still 6 days a week. Though the activity is decreasing I've still have to put in the hours.

I just pick away a bit at a time and I post once I've compiled enough.

I've started adding the lower shrouds to the fore mast. A little progress is better than no progress!

Well it's been quite a while since I've been working on the Duchess. I spent the last several months working on the Winnie and now

I've taken a break from her and want to get some more of the rigging done on the DOK. 

 

I have finished the lower shrouds, the futtock staves, catharpins and futtock strops. Also the four bowsprit stays have been added.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next I'll start on the upper shrouds and then ratlines! Fun Fun Fun

Well, it's been almost two months I've been moving slow and unsteady. It's always tougher to get modeling time in the warmer weather but I'm not going to complain. It goes away too fast as it is. I served the upper shrouds and added them. A couple of miscues and a shroud or two were replaced but finally they are done. Next, I'll be doing the ratlines. Hopefully it will go smoother and a little bit quicker.

I've just completed the lower and upper ratlines on the starboard side. They aren't the best but I'm happy with them.

 

Jim H. said that ratlines are therapeutic. By the time I finish tying all the knots for the port side I may need therapy!

I agree with @James H I also find ratlines very therapeutic.
