Volkswagen Beetle Dragster/Dune Buggy/Street Rod by CDW - FINISHED - AMT - 1:25 Scale - PLASTIC

Next project is a neat little "sectioned" VolksWagen dragster/dune buggy/street rod. This AMT kit gives the option to build it in any of those three ways. It's my intention to build it as a dragster since I've never done that before with a VolksWagen. Once revealed, you'll notice the car body is slightly shorter than a standard VW Bug as a section of the car has been removed giving it a shorter wheel base.

Without further adieu, I'll get started on this one now.

Those look like Florida dress shoes to me. Here in Washington they would be filled with moss!

Hardy folk up there, ya know. ;)

Yep ! Took 7 feet of snow (over 48 hours) and 12 years before my granddaughter got her only snow day from school.

Around here they would call it a snow day if it was even forecast for the passes! And the only classes they have are Zoom classes!

I have seen them cancel school here because they were having high winds in Portland Oregon, 300+ miles away! True story, just a few years ago!

In the Lands of Lake Effect Snow (western NY) there are 2 criteria for closing for snow day, 1.) Windchill or steady air temperature of minus 15 F or lower, or, 2) 12 or more inches of snow . Otherwise school is in session.  In my day the school buses had chains on driving wheels.

Sounds like the criteria we used out on our flight line, back in the day. Snow was a nuisance, not a reason to cancel ops. Guess nowadays, we can't hazard the little blighters. Do they have seatbelts in the bench seats for them yet?

Oh yes, and shoulder harnesses as well, some day I believe they are going to install ejection seats, you know, for those days they just have to leave the bus.....

A project update. This is a reissue of a 1970's kit, so she's not complicated and rather simple for the most part. it won't take long to finish it.

She's finished in satin black with a few photo etch details here and there. I have worked up a wired distributor for the ignition and will install that along with the exhaust system to liven up the engine a bit. Check out the little photo etch Hurst shift lever! Also have some cool photo etch placards to install. One can be seen in a photo on the front of the car. A "special" VW logo. 😉

I would appreciate it if you sent me a smaller one. My hat pins are larger than yours, thus my balls are larger, too. 😁

your done with the 'bug eyed bandit' ;)   does look neat though and the paint and added details fill out some of the gaps. I do see what you mean.....it doesn't look realistic.   if the body was the normal size and shape,  it might look probable.   the engine compartment isn't closed off from the interior,  so that may be the source of a turn off.

it is a nice model though......a scratch builder's dream  ;)

The young fellow on the right is my son's best friend. They went to school together from elementary through high schools. On the left is his dad. The Volkswagen is their project car and they take it to car shows/Volkswagen gatherings in the southeast USA. The young man practically grew up at my house. He was who I had in mind when I built the Volkswagen kit. I presented it to him today and he was thrilled.
