Great work, Tobias! You take your time to get every step just right and that will in turn pay dividends as you progress. Beautiful model.

Hello all,

I have continued with the inner boards, one board has to be partially interlocked by inserting boards to prevent dirt from falling between the inner and outer boards.

First the plan of the inner planks

Fit the plank and mill grooves at a 15 degree angle.

Glue in the plank and wait while I made the inlay boards.

Attach and glue the planks.

Hello everyone, an error happened to me that GD drew my attention to in the French forum, see for yourself with the drawing by @G. Delacroix.

In the last few days I went to bed a bit, my grandchild infected me with a cough, snotty nose and everything that belongs to a real cold and so I had enough time to do some research.
The inner floorboards:
There is a slightly thicker and wider board at the level of the ramparts (inside), which is also provided with teeth and serves as a support for the crossbeams.  I have now made these and gone through the plans with GD.

46868E6B-0474-4B66-9BC9-0DE1ECB0ADBF.thumb.jpeg.db6c1449b34563e062601e54715c805d.jpeg

There is a planning board on which various cross-sections can be seen, which I use as height reference points, the longitudinal section is not suitable for this, I get a different height ratio.

A small update for the weekend.

The battens for the deck beams were attached on both sides. To determine the height, I used the plan with the cross-sections of the frames and marked them, then attached braces and watered and fitted the battens.

Hi Tobias - nice work mate.  I see that the stem is now full of planks but you still have a few to install.  How are you going to get all of the planks running to the stem?  Are you going to trim the one's installed or taper the outstanding ones into the clamp?

Hello and good morning,

The starboard side is planked up to deck height.

Thank you for your interest and all the likes received, much appreciated.

@No Idea about your question, there are slight translation problems and I hope I understand it correctly. I tapered the individual planks with a plane. For reference, there is a plan page with 6 cross sections, I used this to determine the width of the individual boards. I hope I have understood your question correctly and could answer it.

At the moment I come a little less often to La Palme because I have started with Le Rochefort on the side. The first tree nails have found their place. First I wanted to make the nail picture with brass pins, however, I was not sure and have asked precaution at GD. Now it will be tree nails. The first attempt was it with walnut wood this seemed to me but too dark, now I make them in pear and maple.

I treated a small area with sanding primer to see how it worked.

Sanding primer what is it, It is now used by some Europeans and is nothing more than a colorless primer for wood which gives a very nice Finnish. Apply 1 time and work with steel wool and then apply again and polish with 400 sandpaper. Unfortunately, I have learned from colleagues in America that there is no such thing there. Attached are pictures of the product and the Finnish of a colleague.

In the States it is called sanding sealer.  There are several brands, both acrylic and solvent based.  Beautiful work, as always.

Hello Tobias,
by happenstance I found your report here at MSW today.
I know your fantastic work. But it's nice that you also present your work here in this very well known forum.

Hello John, thank you.  I came to MSW through Ed Tosti and his amazing Naiad protocol.  It's the research that keeps you from just being in one forum.  @albert, @No Ideaor you Johann and many others are inspirational for me.  I'm also on the road in the French forum to get as much information as possible.  Of course you also want to show your model and it's a great feeling when you like it and it's well received.

Hello fellow model builders,

the last few days have been fine tuning and today I milled the water groove in the frames.  Tools used Ruler and pencil for marking, a rasp and a dremel with a round head router.

Not that I've seen every model ship ever made but I've never seen anyone add a water groove before. I see the logic for doing so, thank you for adding to my limited knowledge.

Pardon my ignorance but what's a "water groove"? I've not seen nor heard of that nor find a reference.

Pardon my ignorance but what's a "water groove"? I've not seen nor heard of that nor find a reference.

Hi Mark I mean the recess at the bottom of the frames, unfortunately I do not know the correct name. In this recess is also often a chain installed to loosen larger debris and to ensure that the brackish water can run to the pumps.
