It's starting to really come together. I can only echo some other comments that you make this build look easy.

Bob, I think you are doing an excellent job with a kit that has already proved to be a serious challenge. Your last photos have really helped me appreciate how many bulkheads are in this kit. I'm very anxious to see some planking going on.

Augie, would you please clarify what a pencil sander is? That stern is really shaping up by the way!

I'm glad you decided to go this way. Your builds are nothing short of inspiring and this will help other folks when they purchase a kit and find shortcomings that they need to overcome that would otherwise leave them frustrated. I'm positive that ME will get a great product out there as well. I've been a fan of their kits for a while now. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for further updates as this will be on my wish list when it gets released to the public.

Augie, you need to put your ribs in the oven longer; those look too tough and chewy! LOL. Those are going to show through nicely when you have the planking put in. I'm glad to see you are moving right along.

Those are great pictures Sjors! I am anxious to see the Mirage with all of it's rigging in place.

It's these little details you put into your models that make your work into true masterpieces. Just like you said... most won't know the waterstops are there, but it's cool that you still take the time to put them in. Your scarf joint is already a work of art.

Augie, no doubt on deep dark days ahead of us. That's prime time for ship modeling for me though. I'm not itching to get outside when there is snow on the ground. I have no doubt that you'll be able to produce a fantastic planking job.

Sorry about the waiting Popeye. I have to get all the work in my garage done while the weather is warm enough to do so. JP, I haven't seen you for a bit. Have you put your build on a hiatus as well?

Great progress Sjors! I thought your last stay looked good, but your redo is looking even better.

And now the chanting begins..."planking, planking, planking..." LOL. Your progress looks great Augie. Are you planning on staining the exposed frames to contrast with the planking?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
