Nice job Patrick, it looks like it will fit well. Do you think it will shrink after drying out?

Thanks David. I have not decided on the case yet. Though, it's not done yet! I still have to finish and build the main and fore gaffs, as well as all the rigging for them. After that are the flags and I'm done. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Dave! Thank you very much! Yes, the launching ways plans were part of what came with the kit. I did add a few supports so that the boat wouldn't fall over from a gust of wind. Thanks Mike! I really like the way it is turning out. It's good to hear from you again, JP! I tried to get some nice close-us and III think that turned out nicely. Thanks guys, though you do know that I pick all the pictures I post .

Hello again! I realize it has been much too long since I last posted, being exactly one month ago. Since then I have finished the standing rigging, rigged the deadeyes, built an attached the main boom, and added the necessary rope coils. The rope coils are tricky to work with, but I think they look pretty good. I really like the way the ropes look paying through a block. You can probably tell because a lot of the pictures are just that ! There's not much left now! OK, here are the pictures ! Until next time!

Hi Patrick! That tune oil turned out very nicely! Is the planking for this boat individual planks or is it scribed? Also, what is/was your profession? You seem to know a lot about how boats were run and how they were used. Thanks!

Thanks Lawrence! You're right, you are just a little bit early. I may have an update coming later today or tomorrow. All that's left is to build and rig the main gaff, install rigging for 3 more sails, build and rig the fore gaff, and lastly make and rig the flags. Anyway, there will be more later! Thanks for stopping by .

Hi Ginger! I used a wooden piece as a wall and two square sticks at 90* to the wall, 1/2" long and 1/4" apart. Then I cut a 1/8" wide square stock to be slid in. I cut along the edge to ensure a straight cut across the copper. Once cut in half, I cut along the two sticks protruding 1/2" from the wall. That makes the split copper cut into two 1/4" by 1/2" copper plates. I hope this helps!

Hey Ginger, what I did was print out that part of the plan sheet and cut and glued it to a piece of thin cardboard. In my template I did not include the keel, as that was a different piece to be glued on later. I also printed out the part of the plans with the side templates and cut and pasted them to styrene, (you could use cardboard), to make sure both sides of the hull were symmetrical. I had the same problem with the out of scale templates, as have other Phantom builders. Always go with the plans for measurements. Good luck!

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
