  1. I'm not so sure if I understand what you are talking about , is it if I replace the Kit cannons because they are not realistic, are you talking about if I replace the blocks because they aren't to scale, are you talking about replacing cleats that are far too large and bulky, are you talking about replacing cheap rigging to replace it with quality stuff that actually looks good, or, maybe it is replacing the kit supplied dowels because they are warped, or, maybe it is replacing the hull planks because the kit asks for hull to be painted and has supplied crap wood but I want it natural so I replace it with a quality wood ? I could go on further, but as you can see it is not all by choice why people replace expensive parts and pieces it is the manufacturer supplying inferior parts and material doubled my quest to make the best model to my abilities. I would gladly pay more for a kit if I knew all parts and material were of top quality, however, as the kit manufacturer is trying to keep his costs down and the retail price within reason we will never see this. On my current build I have replaced 80 percent of the wood some of it for the reasons mentioned above and other because I wanted to show my insight and taste to this ship. I think changing different things in a kit does not mean that I should be going to a scratch build I think it means that I have the ingenuity to build a model that is truly unique to me. I agree that a scratch build would do the same but could you imagine how MSW would look if we all built our ships to spec. using nothing but kit supplied material, might just be a little boring. So you see, my friend, there several reasons why we do the things we do. And as for all my left over wood and parts I'll use that for my first scratch build
  2. Just found your Fantastic build Grant, it's really a work of art. Looking forward to seeing the new monograms applied
  3. Hey Chris, yup I'm still around and watching. You are doing great and I'm enjoying following along. Looking forward to seeing the Jarrah, I have never heard of it before so I am a little curious to see it on your boat.
  4. That's a real good question, one that I cannot answer. Have you tried contacting Chuck @ Syren? I'm sure if you asked him he would be able to help you. He is the resident expert on rigging rope and his rope is fantastic.
  5. I applaud you on your build and especially your life's work. Please keep up both and keep us all in touch. Thanks
  6. This was my first build, she makes into a beautiful boat. She takes up a lot of room with the extraordinary long bowsprit but is a real fun build. You should really enjoy this one . Have some fun, I'll be following along if you don't mind
  7. Nice work and beautiful model Nigel. You get a triple "WOW" for this one, looking forward to your next build.
  8. Thanks so much Dimitris and Paul. I will have to look into the stagecoach someday, you make it sound very interesting. Thanks again and Happy New Year
  9. And finally a couple of pictures of the carriage I built for my granddaughter(Christmas gift), this is an Amati kit
  10. Here is a fun little kit to build. It is the ships boat by Dusek, the kit as you can see comes complete with pre-cut planks and frames. This kit is amazing as to how it all fits so well, I had no problems assembling, the instructions were clear and the wood was extremely good. Total build time including stand was approximately 22 hours. I would easily give this kit a two thumbs up and would recommend it to all. It is priced at 5 euros, making it even more attractive. After building this I defiantly am putting a full sized Dusek kit on my list. Enjoy
  11. Wonderful work Max, you may have just scared me off of ever rigging sails for any of my builds . Have a Great Holiday Season

  14. No advice here either, but what a beauty! She is going to be big and real sweet!! Great job so far keep it up, I enjoy following along.
  15. Here you go, this shoulder you would want flat(no taper) as this is where your trestletrees would be at the top of the mast. Glad to be of help, if this was, I need another coffee so I can't stay too long
  16. Each line has been marked then cut, the arrows are showing the direction I'll be cutting. In the fourth picture you can see the sloped edges forming, like what you have and I think look ok Forgive the unfinished look this is for demonstration only . I left the shoulders a little extreme just for better visual. This just to show how a square shoulder is done and how it looks versus the beveled edge. Myself I prefer the sloped or beveled edge but I suppose if the plans ask for it.....or what is historically correct.....ultimately it's your choice. Hope this helps, delete the pictures from your log when you are done if you wish. Now I have to clean up my floor
