The Unicorn makes into a real beauty. How I missed this log this long is sad. You are doing a great job. If you want there a couple of books that should interest you and give you some insight on your build. They are The First Frigate by Robert Gardener & The Heavy Frigate by Robert Gardener. David B

Grant, I have seen this beauty at several runs and at Manitowoc several times. It makes up into a very nice and classy beauty. The hard part I was told was doing the R.C. hardware and fitting properly. I think a will join the chair setters in the audience. Remember have fun. David B

They have upgraded their software considerably. I am able to scan them in with my phone. The reason for using both phone and laptop is that there are a couple of used book stores that I used to frequent and I would drop by and take a look at what they had. This way no fuss. At 150 books my library is getting extensive and expensive. David B

We had a modeler in our club who built a model and put it in a case in his living room. The only way it wil ever get out is by either widening the door or taking out his window. David B

Captain Steve, you are coming along nicely, the trick you used for your Fleishman coil was pretty good. The workmanship for your grape was outstanding. How were you able to see what you were doing without getting a headache? David B

This sounds like an interesting build. Keep notes and then submit a paper to the NRG for their Journal. I am going to pull up a chair. Doing background research has always intrigued me. David B

Marvelous tutorial Daniel. I have seen sails done up before but I am now seeing how it is done so it looks proper. My attempts over the years were never that good. Your entire log is a keeper A permanent learner. David B

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
