Thanks for the heads-up Ben - wasn’t aware this was available. Just ordered one!

Welcome to MSW from downunda, Spider. I’ve built this kit and it does make into a nice model with a substantial amount of kit bashing. You are correct in that the instructions will paint you into a corner. As Mark has said, the lower two rows of guns are duumies (barrels only). The problem is the top row (where you have a completely open gun port). The instructions invite you to insert the completed guns, with their carriages, through the gun ports from the outside. They won’t fit through the opening. The only real solution would be to remove the deck that sits above them and place the guns after completing the hull planking and before fitting that deck. The alternative would be to fit gunport lids to these gunports and display the model with these closed. As others have said, there are a number of build logs of this kit, and other versions, on the forum. Read through some of these, start a build log of your own, and ask as many questions as you can. There are no “dumb” questions here. Link to my own build log is in my signature below.

Byrnes Thickness Sander Advice
gjdale replied to janet bode's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Jim, I’ve had some issues with my 230V disc sander overheating. The motor will simply switch itself off when it gets too hot, Once it cools down again it can be re-started and appears to run fine. Only seems to happen if its been running for a long time, rather than in response to loading from the workpiece. Just thought I’d mention it in case it is a common problem with the 230V motors. -
Superb Bob, just superb! Sorry to hear you’ve been having some health issues - hope all is well, or on the mend now?

Thanks for dropping by Aldo - so pleased to see you back on the forum. I just realised that its been 4 months since I updated this log! In case anyone was wondering, I haven’t abandoned this project - it's just been “on hold” while I’ve been attending to some 1:1 scale work building cabinets and storage in the garage workshop. Hope to get back to modelling again soon.

Hey Aldo! So pleased to see you back my friend - its been way too long! As for your plans quandary, have you tried a print shop that deals with architects plans and large blueprints? They might have the capacity to scan your NMM plans to file for you. Looking forward to seeing the resumption of your build. My own modelling is “on hold” at the moment while I attend to some 1:1 scale stuff - building a bunch of cabinets and storage solutions for the garage workshop.

There appears to be only one solution Chuck - you must clone yourself and bring all three to market as soon as possible! The Pegasus cross-section is beautiful and a brilliant concept. Having already done a scratch built cross-section though, I likely woudn’t buy it myself (though I’d be sorely tempted). The Dutch Boeier is an unusual and interesting subject that I can see having a lot of appeal to those looking for something other than “3-masts and lots of guns”. I’d be tempted by this one if I could sneak it past the Admiral..... The Chebacco would likely have most appeal to the US market (which I guess is your largest market segment). Not sure if I’ve helped at all there, but guess on balance I’ll vote for the Dutch Boeier.

Fokker Dr.I by Torbogdan - FINISHED - Model Airways

Well done! I particularly like the map on the base. And that’s an interesting tip about “nothing parallel to the edge on a diorama”. -
Very nicely done Bob - a tedious but rewarding job nevertheless.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
