Beautiful planking job! She's something to be proud of!

Glenn that is one hull to be proud of. A perfect example of taking your time, fixing what you're not happy with and persevering. Great explanation too! Well done.

Great to see an update Bob! Looking really good.

Thanks Reg. I had applied WOP prior to setting them in place. I think I'd have needed to soak them in epoxy for them to survive. The new ones are on their way and I'll stash them until it's time for the final installation.
Also thanks for all the likes!

Ok here's where I'm at now. This update is a good news bad news type of update.
The good news is the quarter galleries, drops and figurines have been placed,
although some paint touch is needed, chapter 3 is complete!
Now the bad news portion is that you will notice that the window frames have been removed from the galleries.
This was intentional as the acetate had not been placed on the inside. There will be a lot of sanding and dust
would cover the widows and they couldn't be cleaned. Plus it protects from accidentally damaging them
as they are fragile. Well having them in place while I glued some of the quarter galleries parts in place allowed
me to get a good fit but also allowed me to unknowingly allow glue to creep onto the frames and gluing them
partially in place. Of course as hard as I tried I broke some taking them out. Soooooo new frames have been
ordered from Syren and they will be placed in the safe until needed later in the build!
So please all of you don't follow my example!

Ok I'm on the same page as you now. Someone who knows more about this can definitely correct me if I'm wrong here.
I believe that the frames are more stylized than an exact replica of the actual ship. I also do not know if the mortar pit beams would have had to align with the frames as they sat on the mortar deck clamp and directly over the floor riders for support. As far as the different distances between the clamps on the plans I have no clue. Again they could be stylized or actual representations of the original drawings.
That's the best I can come up with given my limited knowledge and no copies of the original drawing.

Hi Dave,
I hope I understand your question and this helps. I believe that the plans (page 38) you refer in that post are a representation of how the construction would look from a side angle and not a true scale drawing. The floor riders do sit squarely on top of the keelson and the center of the mortar pit beam does too.
This is page two of the plans and I believe it shows them lined up. If this isn't what you're referring too please let me know.

Sometimes I worry I share too much...............
Nope it's good to see that you suffer the same as the rest of us! 🤣
Seriously your explanations help others understand possible problems and a means of correcting or modifying the approach and achieving a great result.
I'm all for your sharing and I'm envious you can explain it so well. Keep up the good work. Oh and please no 4 sided hulls!!!

I also feel that if I'm buying a kit the additional cost for better materials is the way I'll always go.
Can't wait to see what else your head and heart come up with.

That's a great job lining her off. It will make the planking so much better.

I'm guessing upper three rows port side bow area?
Now I'm going to look for some for myself! Thanks

Work has progressed on the stern and I've completed placing all of the figures etc.
I can't say enough about the quality of the castings. Now I just have to finish placing
the drops and the two figures on the quarter galleries.
Now in other news.... a year and a half ago our other shipmate passed leaving our Westie as
the sole assistant. The Admiral decreed that a new shipmate must be acquired. After months
of searching a suitable replacement was found and arrived this week. She is an eight week old
miniature schnauzer.
Now some may be wondering why I'm putting this here in my build log? The Admiral knows and
supports my ship building hobby but other than the Constitution I don't think she could name
any other model I have built over the years. So when the new shipmate arrived I inquired as to
the name she had chosen and this floored me.
Everyone meet Winnie!!!!!

I'm puttering around in the workshop while waiting to start chapter 4. The biggest decision will be deciding
what to plank the decks with. I'm contemplating AYC, Holly and Boxwood. I'm going to cut up some
scale planks and see how each looks. Once I decide I can start milling what I need.
