  1. I'm pulling up a chair, Marcus. I'm not familiar with these so this is something different and should be an interesting build.
  2. Jim, No preference from me. I'm liking and loving all your pictures. Superb work.
  3. Mike, I'll dig out my copy of ANCRE's monograph and see if there's an insight like a planking diagram. I don't know if this will help... I'll look for a side view of the planking if you think it will help.
  4. It might be playing to you, but it looks like artwork from here. Nicely done with interesting imagery.
  5. Welcome to MSW, Spider. To answer your questions... the lower two decks are using "dummy guns"... not full fledged cannon with carriage. The dummy just goes into the the hole at the back of the port. Do paint the port flat black before install the barrel. As for the upper decks... you should probably read ahead on this. Could be the deck will need to come off to give you access or....??? Disclaimer: I've not built this kit but the lower ports and dummies are standard on a lot of kits.
  6. Mike, Maybe I'm late to the party on this... here's how Licorne's tail end in planked. Pictures show it better than I can describe it.
  7. Alan, are all those images of the figurehead reconstructions? I was lead to believe from David Cordingly's book that there wasn't any contemporary paintings that had it visible.
  8. Welcome to MSW, Jobbie. Nice work on the ships...make that very nice work.
  9. Dave, Love the step fix. But, I have question.... would the Constitution have had the life rings? I thought those came about much later.
  10. <looks around> I'll be grabbing a seat down front, Danny. I like that speadsheet idea.
  11. Piet, I'm feeling for you on these builds that are so personal to you but I do appreciate and offer thanks for that sharing. It puts faces and names with these ships and perhaps makes the history more personal for us also. I agree, the war in the Pacific is mostly "the forgotten war" with some exceptions.
  12. If you hadn't said anything, we wouldn't have known they were upside down. I, for one, don't know how anyone can work with those parts at that scale. To me it's amazing.
  13. I noticed that also. No drama here. I'm thinking it's the weather but I'll take another run at it with the sandpaper as I may have missed it. There's a few other spots now that I look closer that need it too. I used a product called Micro-Glaze from Model Expo.
  14. Thanks for following along, for the likes, and commentary... Still fussing with cannon... I drilled the holes for the rings and hooks that fit to the bulkhead. The first photo shows the machining jig and drilling tool. All the barrels are in the carriages and the appropriate hardware added to them. I also added the trunnion caps made from black paper soaked in CA. (Barely visible in the last photo). The 2nd pic shows 6 in position to check alignment, etc. So far... so good. Now for the fun part... hooks, blocks, and rope for the training gear. Once that's completed, I'll start adding the breeching and installing the hardware to the bulkhead and connecting everything up. My only comment is "This stuff is tiny. Next time, a bigger scale. Admiral permitting of course."
  15. Welcome to MSW, Noctavigant from a former Buckeye. Can you tell us your name? it's more personal than a handle.
