  1. Denis, The anchor may be just for "safety" if they need to ride out a storm before hitting the beach or even one the beach so a storm wouldn't pull her back into the water? Just speculating...
  2. Can you post some pictures of the stern and bow? It looks from a distance to be a Vasa/Wasa...maybe Corel? I'm looking at the quarter galleries and bow but the planking around the ports just doesn't seem to fit the time period. Maybe there's a bit of stylizing done there?
  3. Did you look here: https://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/forum/20-wood-discussion/ The pinned topics at the top have lists (and also other ones buried in the posts) of suppliers.
  4. I realized going through my parts box that I needed more hardware than what I had on hand... so... order off to Ages of Sail. I also decided that my head isn't up to serious detailed lathe work nor running the noisy lathe with Janet not doing well at this point so I ordered the guns from Chuck. Now to go turn to and get the sanding finished, the holes for the hardware drilled (I also have to do the deck around the main mast and add bits and pieces).. oh.. and build my carriages for the cannon. Gonna' be busy for awhile.
  5. Steve, did you ask Ed (use his build log)? I pretty sure he knows the answer or one of the clipper guys who frequent there would know.
  6. Thanks for the likes and comments. It feels pretty good to be back in shop. Still sanding but made a jig today for drilling the gunport holes for the eyebolts. Pictures show front and back of next to the dummy cannon. The eyebolts are them for reference only.
  7. Thanks for the likes and comments. They are deeply appreciated and encouraging. I finished the planking the interior of the gundeck and have sanded it all pretty smooth. Still needs another pass with the sandpaper, IMO, along with some crack filling. I also need to make some "trim" bits (fiddly) for the cabin. To break the monotony of sanding, I have started work on the gun carriages. I just need to find a good time to start the guns themselves. Here's the pics as she stands in the shipyard today. I'm running an inventory of eyebolts, rings, and some blocks to see if I have enough to fit out what's needed on this deck as well as the outside hull.
  8. Redos are good, IMO. You realize where you went wrong and usually end up fixing that one and others you didn't know about. I'm looking forward to the rest of the frames now.
  9. Welcome to MSW, Bill. There's a lot of us using "tech" such as CNC, Laser Cutters, and 3D printing. Much is in this area as far as discussion: https://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/forum/34-cad-and-3d-modellingdrafting-plans-with-software/ However, there's also a wealth of information in the various build logs. Use the search feature with keywords like "CNC", "Laser cutter", etc.
  10. A lot of ships of that era had those, Keith. Speculation seems to be to "repel boarders" and/or "repel mutineers". Or maybe, shoot the cook?
  11. Hi Jake, Welcome to MSW. I hope you'll start a build log so we can follow the adventure.
  12. Give the range of years, Charlie, you can probably go with wood for the earliest, wood with a metal track on top, and then full metal for the latest of the three. I'm looking forward to what you get from Shapeways.
  13. Jan, Make a post in the Plans and Project Research area... Someone around here has to know what that "thing" on the bow is called and why it's there.
  14. Interesting problem Charlie... For the pivots on my Constellation, I used the offering from Bluejacket. You might go their site and see how those look. I daresay there's probably as many ways of doing the wheels as there were shipbuilders.
  15. I suspect, Eric, that you'll need to start some drop planks or the curved wood strips will get shorter as you approach the keel. The last plank would probably be very short...
  16. Beautiful work on the boats, Nenad. I'm smiling that you'll get your cataract surgery. I wasn't sure how you were seeing something that tiny.
  17. Thanks for the likes and comments. A brief update... sanding like mad when I can but time has been rather precious this last couple of weeks. Replacing planks that popped loose (not sure why though) and some decision making gong on. I looked inside my head, and realised that I wouldn't be happy if I didn't do the max that I'm capable of. I did on the the Constellation and next to nothing can be seen on the gun deck... so full speed (for some value of "full") ahead and I'll be adding more details. Once sanding is complete, I'll pop a couple of photos. Footnote.. I think I found a major (?) boo-boo. Hahn shows a tiny window between the 2nd and 3rd gunports from the stern. Inspection and reflection of the Belle Poule show that there's some (I'm grasping for the right words here) a beam with brace for securing the lower end of the main course sail. Apparently of iron. I'll sorting out how to fill in the hole.. maybe a bit of ebony with the piece coming outboard. Make all look like blackened iron? I'll sort this out one way or the other as there's no rush.
  18. I would be cautious on using current ships as a reference because they more and more seem to be using artificial rope that has the color in it the material.
