Bismarck by Semorebutts - FINISHED - Trumpeter - 1/200 scale - PLASTIC - with MK1 detail set

I started work on the first four  launches today.   This is the fun stuff I love to do. The first thing I did is drilled out the portholes, 24 in all.

next I take these pieces.

IMG_2555.thumb.JPG.f97a0642179d5f2766002f2c230b3c8f.JPG

fold  up the two tabs towards the rear.

IMG_2557.thumb.JPG.b70481b82df2aa876d81c89f344e625b.JPG

then  slide the two tabs into two slots on a corresponding peace.

I did that four times

Now alot of bending coming up.

That is all for now.   Did I use the word corresponding in its correct context?

I agree with Carl on the audience.   They do look very pleased and hopefully won't take "home" a souvenir.

Question, is the framing glued in place?   That looks like it will limit access for painting the deck.   You have more patience than I for all that brass work.

they were very excited!  they love sitting on the couch looking out the window. when I put my hand out to bring them back home they ignore me lol.

the canopy frame is not glued in place yet. it will be painted grey while the rest is painted wood color. it don't like to glue painted brass to painted brass but I think I have to this time. that reminds me any suggestions on what paint to use to simulate wood.  also how to simulate wood.... I have no idea what I'm doing.  the Flory models build uses primer then tamiya buff then brush on oil paint then wipe the oil paint off to simulate wood. it comes out awesome but there has to be an easier way.

Vallejo sells a wood and leather paint set. It involves a primer first, then a base color, then 2 or 3 washes. Comes with a color brochure giving instructions on how to achieve the finish. It sounds like Flory's method involves fewer steps and may actually be easier to achieve the effect you want. The Vallejo set gives a wider range of options for finished color and tint. There used to be wood grain decals you could cut to fit your particular application. Some were quite nice. Often used to simulate WW1 aircraft plywood construction on planes such as the Albatross for example.

Ain't no easy way, but for the "real" wooden decks you can buy for some ships. I used off cuts from Musashi's deck to use on the bridge of my previous destroyer build, might use such a piece again on the current, as simulating wood at this scale is rather hard to realise

If you were to use a wood grain decal, you would want to try and scale the decal as close to your ship's scale as possible, or else the grain would be way too large. Most of these decal sheets are for 1:48 to 1:32 scales. But I looked on Ebay and noticed they have these wood grain sheets for N scale railroad. That may be about as close as you will find to the scale you are working with, 1:200.

I just finished up the first 4 launches ready for paint.  Hopefully the paint hides the gluey mess I just made.  I will wait to  finish all 11 before I start painting.

I lost a few pieces so one of the launches does not have any grab rails. That one will go in the back.

You don't have another sheet of PE? looks a bit poor on parts ... ;) These are like my previous and current build ... every time I find something I missed. That's the pits with Musashi that big bastard has to many sheets of PE, and very unclear instructions

Work on the launches continues slowly.

I cut out every piece I need for all launches leaving me with one less PE sheet and a bigger scrap heap.

this is basically what I have to do with the PE

like the other launches I started with the rudders

Then I started with the PE.

Folding tiny boxes and gluung in place etc.

I  know I have been going slow lately.. I just haven’t had a lot of time lately.

I started by bending boxes and gluing them in place  minus one box.

oh there you are! I was worried.

I bent  all of the stairs I would need, though  I don’t know if I’m going to use them yet.

Next is to glue all the doors minus one because it  got sucked into a black hole never to be seen again.

then the hatches got glued in place.

And that’s where I am at right now. It’s a long weekend so hopefully I can get more done.
