It is possible that if you pick the right period in time you could allow yourself to get a little more carried away, especially from the main deck down.

It is a little hard to maintain a ship below the main deck in rough winter, North Atlantic convoy weather than it would be in the summer in the Med. Plus the weather would cause much more wear on the ship in a shorter time span. Probably not as much weathering as on a smaller ship, but still noticeable, at least until they hit the nearest port for provisions and fuel.

One thing you could possibly do. I have seen pictures of gun barrels on ships after battle and the paint on the barrels is flaking off from the heat, and the area around the turrets are a mess. In the case of large guns this can apply to even the superstructure closest to the guns. Shore bombardment can burn up a lot of ammo in a relatively short time.

This is from 1943 in the med (photo courtesy of the IWM), I’m going to have to figure out how to do a 3 tone barrel yet alone blistering it. I might await the next group build.

Nice! That shouldn't be to hard for the likes of you ... Although I have to admit that I would only know how to start, but to finish it ... the third colour ... at 1:1 it wouldn't be to hard, but it's the scale that's making my head spin two tone would be quite doable .... I'll certainly stick around when you will tackle that one!!

Multiple tiny bits finally starting to come togeather. 44inch spotlights, 21 inch signal mamas (Northstar), replacements for the Pom Poms and single 20mms, ladders.....bottom half almost done, need to rig the signal ropes.

A source of frustration is Pontos has designed the PE for the Prince of Wales not the KGV, which just throws things out a tad, and the extras are on the borderline of my level of competence because they are so small. One of Pontos phots shows a DF sticking out the front of the bridge but it’s not on the plans or the frets, so it’s not going to be there.

The muzzles look like old blunderbusses, although the ones in the photo do look oversized, too. Muzzle opening seems a little smaller than a sailor's noggin. The model photo is shot much closer than the average viewer will be eyeballing your build.

But wait! There’s more!

The upper per bridge area has a lot of detail and it took a while to get my head around what was required.

I cut cut off all the binoculars and range finder pedestals and replaced them all with North Star  as the Pontos stuff really made no sense and the instructions just gave part numbers.

The high altitude range finders were all replaced with North Star as well, and I added 6 signal lamps.

I just have to add the coat the coat of arms then park it until it’s stuck onto the ship and it will get the final rigging

The way you built the superstructure, it could have been a model on itself as OC wrote ... so much crisp detail, the camouflage adding a certain multidimensional depth to the structure, and makes the parts pop up, what would have been lost, if it was a mere grey blob ... it really did turn out magnificent

Thanks, given the absolute lack of detail on this kit (it’s really dated), it becomes like being a little bit pregnant, you detail or you don’t. It seems to upset my OCD to not detail but this is really quite a big piece.

Now, my black and white effort

The B&W enhances the detail even more than in the color pictures somehow. That is a Very busy superstructure. It is almost as if she is passing under a bridge and we are looking down.
