Nice project, Phil.

A teacher in elementary school claimed her husband was an engineer instrumental in the design of this plane. It's always been an interesting design to me. She was big, heavy, and fast.

That Monogram kit will build into a beautiful model but I have heard it's a challenge. You'll be up to it I believe. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I built this kit as a kid. It was a great kit if I remember correctly with lots of options of leaving things open to see guns and stuff. It I remember correctly though it is a bit tail heavy and if you want it to sit on the landing gear you will have to hide some weight in the nose and engines.

There used to be a guy who sold a cast weight for the nose. It would work unless you planned on showing off the radar antenna. I wish I could remember his name, sorry. You may be able to find some other aftermarket goodies for it. This website has some pretty good info, in case you are looking.

why not just use the weights they use in the Pinewood Soapbox derby cars the Scouts build and race - they can be cut to various sizes and would easily fit inside - I think Loews, Home Depot and Michaels all sell the kits and accessories.

I think I just glued BBs or lead shot into the nose and into the space behind the engines. I think the drop tanks are also forward of the main landing gear but I don't remember needing to put anything in them. I think there is room inside the main wings as well. Of course you can just make a stand and glue the wheels to it.:D

Thank you for the tips on the weights.  I’ll have to be careful on the balancing.

I only got a little more done over the weekend.  I dry brushed most of the interior an olive drab.

I got most of the interior done last night.  I still have some minor detail work to do.

I also have about 70% of the heavy assembly done.  My P-61 now looks like a plane.

I spent quite a bit of time filling and blending in the seams.  I’m going to try and finish the interior this weekend, so I can close it up, along with finishing the rest of the assembly.

Hopefully, I’ll get a coat or two of paint on the model this weekend.

I’ve been really busy the last few weeks and thus have only been able to sneak in a few minutes here and there.

Yet, I’m almost done.  I have the base coating done and most of the decals have been applied.  I still have some detail work to do.  But, here it is:

Beautiful.  I built that plane a long time ago and loved seeing the real one in person at the AF Museum when I lived in Dayton.

I remember building this model about 28 years ago if I recall correctly. This build takes me back in time a bit. :)

Nice job on yours. Well done.
