This kind of holder to fit into the toolpost can be bought at reasonable prices:

For light knurling in brass a simple holder to feed straight into the part may be sufficient.

Be aware, that knurling forms sort of triangular ridges - gear teeth look somewhat different, with sort of vertical flanges and a space at the bottom between the teeth.

Thanks Valerie,

The project that I am working on will require a lot of gears.  I just bought a pair of knurling cutters on eBay.  Now I need to build a fixture to hold them.

Roger

Roger, I'm glad to help you.

Please note that with the help of rolling knives, you can only create an imitation of a gear.

Real working gears must be manufactured using a different technology.

Impressive work Valery, I have a question for you; you will cover the brass parts mounted on the model with something so as not to oxidize?

Thanks , Dj bobo !

To protect against oxidation, brass can be coated with transparent nitro lacquer, zapon lacquer.

Valeriy,

They will just be imitation gears- deck winches, cargo winches, and gears for turning vowel ventilators.

That guy’s fixture is really clever.  I have a large heavy gauge aluminum angle. I’m going to use it to make a knurling fixture that mounts on the cross slide of my lathe; similar to the one shown in the Sherline catalog.

Stunning as always.

Did you use your computer and printer to do the 'tiling' in the wheelhouse?

Jan

Jan, linoleum for the floor is printed on a printer and covered with adhesive tape on top.

To avoid excess shine, the tape is treated with fine sandpaper.

Did they really had 'inlaid' (as it was called) linoleum on Russian ships at that time, rather than the sober 'battleship' linoleum (which was also thicker as the domestic one), that usually comes in a dark reddish brown ?

In the "Varyag" wheelhouse, the linoleum pattern was just that.   :)

It is interesting that the binnacle was tied down with turnbuckles. This is a carryover from sailing ship days when the compass/binnacle was "portable" and normally tied down to eye bolts in the deck with lanyards.

Fabulous work Valeriy!  I know I've said this before, but your work is so precise, clean and meticulous.  I also know that it takes dedicated hard work to achieve such a result.  I've been looking at your brass and wood capped railing and it appears flawless.  Bravo!
