It looks like you are doing very well there Augie. The stern can be a pain if you

don't take your time and double check. Well done! :)

Bob, You can always order a Confederacy and build it with Augie while they

straighten out the Essex. ;)

I have the idea that if Bob wanted a Confederacy, he'd scratch build one.  There was some guy named Rusty who did that :D  :D .

His trailblazing on Essex, especially considering it's teething pains, should be more interesting !

Looking good Augie, it's starting to look like I'm going to have to have a pencil sander, disclaimer or whatever ..... you are not immune from being the responsible party resulting in Micro-Mark being sold out of this item.....(didn't really check it out, but it sounded good).....however, I wouldn't doubt it since everyone on the forum now wants one...

Don't let my secret out John ---- I get a 3 cent kickback on every sander sold.  I also can provide a good deal on a bridge if you're interested :D

Hi Augie, I have a pen sander but it's the proxon version, much the same I would imagine.

Mine came with a few different pads of different shapes and grits but the paper itself doesn't hold up so well I find, wears out real quick, so I just use some normal 80/150/220 grit paper and double sided tape to make my own pads, lasts longer too and much cheaper than buying them.

Hi Augie,

I've been off the air for a while as we were "sans Internet" while in Venice. On the way home now, laying over in London overnight before the long haul back to Oz, and finally had the opportunity to get another MSW fix. Your Confed is looking great - lots of progress since I last checked in! Those pen sanders really are the ducks guts. I have the Proxxon version (to overcome the power supply issue) and used it extensively when I was doing the re-build of my Victory stern. An absolute must have in my opinion. :)

Grant -- Have a safe trip home!  Didn't know they had moose in London :D

John --  I think BE is talking about the winding around the anchor ring.  We'll see !!!

Ben --  Mine came the same way with the sanding pads.  Fortunately I have rolls and rolls of 100/150/220 grit sticky back sandpaper that I use for sanding blocks on the aircraft.  I get it from Tower Hobbies.  I'm used to using 12 - 24" at a time (at 2" width). :D  :D

Hi Augie, It's funny you mentioned that. I just received several rolls from Tower Hobbies and have some

the Great Planes hand sanders. Never built a plane but they work great on my ship models.

Looking forward to more progress and pictures!

More progress soon Rusty.

Yup, those aluminum sanding bars come in handy on ships as well.  I use the 6 and 12" mostly.  For that Bomb vessel of yours my 24" might come in handy :)  :)

And that stick back sandpaper can be used to make custom wood blocks as well!

Just a quick update.

The stern gun ports have been laid in:

post-56-0-42758000-1380215486_thumb.jpg

As they are vertical to the deck, they do not match the angle of the canted stern frames.  I used plywood spacers to set the height and width of the ports so (hopefully) they are accurate.

Just need to add a few support fillers to the stern and fair them in.  Then it's on to the false deck :)  :)

Oh, I didn't mean to neglect Popeye's talents in the least.... He has no competition either here or abroad..... He's the greatest and fastest multi builder ever!!...... I was comparing you to Mobbsie because both of you are doing  just single builds. So you sir, are entitled

to be state sides best and fastest in the single build category!!! ;)  ;)
