Loving it!   So much to go through and use as inspiration (and so much to go through and learn from).    I have tried a few rope coils but they always come out looking like rope piles (would definitely get keelhauled for them that is for sure).

Dunno how ya do it - but keep on keeping on my friend; the adventure is fantastic!!

I'll have to look back in you log Andy ......I wasn't really trying to mimic anyone's method...just the concept.   I don't do anything with acrylics,  although I just got three weathering kits...armor,  figures, and trains.  they are acrylics.......completely new to me.  originally, I wasn't going to do this.....I was just going to make them the way I usually do.   but this is the way they are in the kit...so,  I did them  thanks for the good word.....;)

I started on the Nordkap in August of 2010........my first build.  I haven't stopped since.   the AmericA will be my ninth.

What a fine lady of the sea you have nearly completed there Popeye; a very nice build.  Those flemish coils came up OK mate; nothing that a bit of drying time on the glue won't fix :).  I tend to make them up the same way I did in real life; I start with the standing end and make large concentric loops onto a flat shiny/slippery surface, working inwards (as a spiral) until the end bit is in the centre.  Then using my fingers to keep the whole lot flat I spin the coils CW/CCW (depending on the lay of the rope) and gradually tighten the coil - a very light coat of diluted PA and its done.  Works for me, but may need a little practice.

cheers

Pat

if one of these days Pat,  I find myself working on a ship with cannons,,,,I had better refine this, and in a big hurry!  :)   I don't have a bad idea......just need to leave it open, so they can dry correctly.   thank you very much....I value your insight  ;)

thanks John,  I appreciate the good word!  :)

Popeye,

Very nicely done.  The coils look great as does everything else.  Looks like in another day or two, this build will be ready for the display shelf.

bassically,  the only things left to do is to finish the anchors,  and rig the jib's lower corner.   after the anchors were painted,  the chain was tied on using copper thread.

this finishes off the build........I had some fun with this one.   the kit is very well done......perhaps a little sub standard in a few areas,  but tweaking them,  to enhance them,  added to the challenge.  I also didn't want to add too much,  as I did in the last couple of kit builds.

Congrats on finishing another fantastic build Popeye. You've only got five things going on right now so I'm sure we'll see another build log popping up soon? In all seriousness, your attention to detail and step-by-step build log have me wanting to add Billing's America to my kit inventory.
