Ben,

I think that's what I did with the first version.   I'm more organized this time.

Pat,

That's what the pictures are for... printed out and close at hand. :)

Augie,

Battle of the Bulge?  Let's think naval.... Jutland?  Trafalgar?

Thanks Sherry and also to everyone for the likes.

Good question, Mike. I've been giving that some thought.  The deck clamps will lay directing on top of the tabs.  Once in place there's no need for them.  However, I'll have to experiment and see if can remove them without damaging the frame.   Oh boy.. another test!!! :)

Mark,

Will they be visible? Does it matter, or is it one of those, "I know they are there" kind of things?

Sam,

The only ones visible would probably be the quarterdeck and forecastle ones at the open waist.  I've been thinking about making knees for those anyway, or maybe the gangways will hide them...    So the answer probably comes down to "why bother?" but I'm keeping options open.

Just kidding.

Nice system with arrows for the sills. :D

When you are finished, those arrows are gone then ?

Just looking at that frame reminds me of the great tumblehome the Licorne has. Its a beautifully shaped ship, great choice for your build.

I'm just wondering how much intellectual dividend you acquired by going through the efforts of V.1.

All that effort aside, doesn't it feel good to be better prepared and organized this time around? As I spend more time with this hobby it never ceases to amaze me just how much 'know how' I've acquired in just over a year. I find more and more that for me the hobby of ship building is the search for experience. Some call it the journey, but that's just all the experiences put together. May each experience along V.2 be fulfilling and a reward in and of itself.

Its good to see framing going on, Mark. Now we watch her grow. :dancetl6:

Thanks Keith.  There's more to this road trip/journey/etc. than I knew.  This is my fifth (ok.. sixth if you count Version 1) ship and everyone has been a stretch in both experience, skills, and knowledge.  This one is bit harder since it's really outside my comfort zone in that it's French.  All my reference works before starting this were for English/American ships.   I'm more in the zone but not 100% comfortable yet but I am enjoying the challenges and having fun with it.

Thanks for that Adam and B.E.   Well, I hope I don't disappoint anyone and more importantly, myself.. :)  :)

Twelve frames cut, fitted to build board (but not glued).  Reference points marked and will be re-checked after they are glued in.  One of the references is totally off as I cut it at the gunport mark and not the wale mark... argghhh..

post-76-0-09568000-1400114093_thumb.jpg

Plan of attack on this is evolving... due to new items I've discovered.  I do want all the full frames cut and fitted before doing the rest of this.

1) Fit frames to keel.  Keel needs to be modified such that the area above the rabbet needs to be 5/32" instead of full width of 3/16".  I'm holding off on this as long as I can as I'm thinking I need to change the angle of the rabbet anyway.

2) Re-recheck reference marks and cut gunports into frames.

3) Glue to build board.

4) Add spacers and keel.

5) Fair, sand, sand, sand.... and sand somemore both inside and out.

Then in some semblance of order, fit the sills, half-frames, hawse frames and punt.  I'm still picking apart details from La Venus such as frigates had herringbone pattern decking in the great cabin...  oy... And I'm sorting out how to remove the quarterdeck and forecastle deck clamp reference tabs for easier planking.

Hi Pat,

I've done a lot of reconsidering and re-thinking things.  This thing is still evolving as just when I see an answer, I find two more questions lying in wait.  I'm sticking with his basic method and add some things here and there to make life easier in my mind.  For example, in his builds, he cuts apart the plan view and traces the gunports, deck clamps, etc on to the frames.  I'm going with reference marks and tabs on the frames.  Just a different approach, I think.

Looking good Mark B) If you find the need to remove the reference tabs in an area where you are working, and it will definitely be covered with planking,i.e. above the main wales, you could always drill a tiny hole outside to inside on the frames centreline. This would obviously remain no matter how much fairing you did.

Kind Regards

I hadn't thought of that, Nigel.   It would be easier than cutting off the tab after the clamp is in place.

Update time...

I needed a break from cutting out frames having done about half of them so far.    So.... installed the first three frames,  added spacers for strength and position, and cut the bridle port.   The keel is just set into position as are the upper and lower sills for the port to help in squaring everything up.

The bridle port is build up on the frame sides and the upper and lower sills rest on the "build up" with the middle frame being cut out for the port.  Thankfully, it's the only one like this.  The rest are cut into the frames.   There's a conumdrum on the plans.  The cut-away with the ports outlined is more "square" where as the framing plan shows the fore end of this port higher on the hull.  I went with the framing plan.  I hope I picked correctly.

I had exactly the same issue with Mordaunt :D Euromodel plans show a 'parallelogram' port following the shear right at the front whilst all the others are square.Builder's model shows all square.I went with the builder's model, but the port actually works out slightly higher than the rest in relation to deck level.

NIgel,

This issue isn't as severe as some other ones I've stumbled across .  But since these plans were all done by hand, I expect some issues.  Version 1.0, I used whatever sheet was handy for the ports and other measurements.  I'm sticking to the framing drawing until this thing is planked, at least until it's totally framed out.  I'll also use it for the deck beam placement as I've caught some mis-matches (or maybe they just seem to be mismatches?).
