  1. Looks like AL had a hand with the kitting. Good luck, Bryan. I'd like to follow along, too.
  2. If you want some harbor barges, in HO or O Scale, look at http://www.laserkit.com/laserkit.htm Go into the scales to find the barges. It's an oddly connected website. The kits are laser cut wood, Sylvan Scale Models has some resin kits in various RR scales : http://sylvanscalemodels.com/HO%20ships%20new%20page.htm
  3. Works lots better than swiping your finger through the glue ooze. You could use a micro-brush, also known as a dental swab in that cup of water.
  4. Mike, this is my technique for cutting brass. I cut the PE using a curved Xacto type knife, laying the PE on a piece of plate glass. No flex like a cutting mat would have. Cut as close as possible to your part. Use plenty of light, maybe some magnification and for sure wear safety glasses. You may want to consider putting some tape on the part to keep it from sailing off or maybe(?) hold it with a finger (carefully). If you have a nub of brass after cutting, carefully grab the part with a locking tweezers or something similar and take a fine file to the nub.
  5. Pikers, that beauty is worth at least a keg. Gorgeous workmanship there, Dan. Slainte.
  6. I think you're on the right track, Cobr@. The great guns had been retrofitted with flintlock triggers, but these could break or misfire. The backup was the linstocks or slow match fuses you made there. I'd think they'd go towards the ship's center-line, between the guns.
  7. Don, I'll be following along, too. The Swan Class has some pretty lines and someday I may do one. Right now, I'll work on my Launch.
  8. I await your next photos. For some reason, this thick Yankee isn't seeing the picture correctly. I'll go stand in a corner and wait now....
  9. Mark, can you make a paper template/tracing of the base of the railing and then scan it into your drawing program. That would get you closer to the correct sweep.
  10. Nice bit of drawing there, Mark. Has a speedy, SR-71 look to it. Be careful hollowing that gem.
  11. They might be the cartridge carriers for the powder monkeys. Powder bag, wad(s) and the projectile (round shot, bar shot, etc.).
  12. They sell bamboo skewers for cooking. Check for them in cooking supply places. We have a bag of 100 or so. You'd have to split them and then run them thru a draw plate to get to your desired diameter.
  13. If you want some peeling paint, daub some rubber cement on in a few spots. Paint your body color and then peel off the rubber cement daubs. I used it on some logging camp shacks and they were OK. Don't get too carried away with the technique and do everything. Less is more.
  14. Greg, I'm going to follow along, too. Like John said, one of the most significant steel warships.
  15. Per, the offer of some Swedish coffee sealed the deal. We drink Gevalia here. I too will follow along.
  16. Nicely done, Matt. I really like your work with the cherry. That's a great looking hull; great lines.
  17. Red oak has some coarse grain to it. Poplar is better, but has some grain coloring to it. If you can pick through the poplar to minimize the coloring, it's a nice wood. Works OK.
