Its all looking very good Marcus, Might I suggest that the lettering be done in a bit softer font. The style of the cat boat seems to want a more rounded type of script for the name. Just my nickles worth, you know what you are doing and it is your boat. Michael

Amazing work Jeff, I like the fact that you need to build special tool in order to accomplish certain aspects of this work. Michael

Kieth, the paper around the chuck was brilliant, Why have I never thought of this. Thinking ahead using the old method of dividing a line by using a known distance and then connecting the ends and drawing parallel lines to it to divide the unknown length any number of equal divisions can be arranged. here ya go chuck division.pdf Michael

Geatan, and it is this that will keep you young for a very long time. The joy of doing a task is the spice of life in my view, and learning something new along the way is pure bonus. Michael

Always fun to see what you are fabricating next Denis, the chain set up looks good. interesting how we all go about achieving a complex task. I would have worked with the chain flat on the table But I can see that by doing it the way you have, there is the natural effect of gravity to give just the right amount of sag to the chain, which would be impossible to achieve on the flat. Ken, not sure how I missed this thread, All I can say is Wow. Love all the little details and sequences for fabrication, the gauges and the fire extinguishers are exquisite. The divers helmet is amazing, the copper foil paint is new to me, looks like a pretty impressive surface. Great picture at the end and brings the size back into perspective, because half the pictures lead me to think this was a much bigger model than it is. Very nice work. Michael

Rob I have the original portholes they pulled out nicely with the flush cut pliers before I started to fill the divets, they will push back in when the painting is done. I had to pop the railing on loosely to see how colour matched and I am very happy with the match. In the pictures you can see the middle lower stanchions that are painted silver and the top rail and the two outside lower sets of stanchions look close enough to pass me-thinks That's it for today A very satisfying bit of work. Hi Druxey.... the best daylight is in the living room on an overcast day... but somehow I am not sure that that will go down very well with Judy. I think I am going to do a little rearranging in the room to take advantage of the window and spend some time on it next week, I have an appointment at the hospital Friday Morning which will require sedation so the weekend will be a quiet time, Get to drink nothing but liquid all day tomorrow. Oh Yeah! Michael

Thanks for all the visits and Likes. This whole process is a huge learning curve for me as well no matter how much I have learned in the past it seems that each step presents new challenges. The simple act of matching a colour can be quite frustrating. I have been working on filling the lower divets in the hull and working at getting the colour matched at the same time, there is more orange in the hull read than I had thought. The lighting selection in the camera gives me different things to look for and in daylight it is different again. The model will eventually be displayed again in a public space with modern lighting. The stanchions are getting close to looking like all the rest. Michael

Again thanks for all the visits it is encouraging. Hi Nils I came to Canada on the Sylvania in October 1967 One day I would like to make a model of her. I have very fond memories of that 8 day trip. Just happened that we were in a force 10 for three days, with 40 foot waves, it was exciting for this young man at the time. But I also like these types of ships Michael

Beautiful Workmanship Toni, a question regarding the tops of the frames on the open side, do they get trimmed to length or am I missing something? Michael

Rob The new stanchions are brass and I am painting them to look like nickel silver with an aged patina they soldered up very nicely, by laying the handrail on its side and using the small block of Jellutong, it kept the top flat. I am happy basically with the colour which was achieved with a mixture of Humbrol air frame silver and Humbrol unbleached linen. After all the wires are in place on the ship I will give it a scruffy coat of Microscale Micro Flat. The handrail still need a little toning down. The area at the end where the handrail steps up was difficult to thread and keep clean(smooth) One can only guess at the assembly sequence that was used long ago. I have decided to break this area up by using some of the original stanchions at the step. the next picture shows some short pieces of original wire threaded through two set stanchions, the third one is free at the moment once I have got the new section ready to place into the holes I can fettle the short wires to create the transition from the old to the new. and the stepped end of the handrail will fit over the top of the original type stanchions. These will be fixed with a drop of CA. Michael
