Magnificent. Where did you find the set. Those parts would be interchangeable with with almost any model built to that tiny scale. Where do you keep the workers from Lilliput that you have actually doing the work for you oh master shipwright. David B

Good for you Gary I was scratching the Latham but it was put on hold do to health problems. You have started a nice kit. And I think you will find the model very nice when finished. Just follow the instruction book and that will help you out tremendously. And you can add a lot of detail as well. My advice is to get a copy of Chappelles American Fishing Schooners. That book will be your bible. David B

HMS Leopard by gobi71 - 1/300 scale

How did you mask it off and did you airbrush or by hand? Marvelous work. David B -
Patrick your rail looks perfect and to scale. How did you straighten it out? Just stretch it or did you roll it? David B

A detailed practicum would be a best seller. Your work is that good. I know I would add it to my library. Flawless craftsmanship and skill. Simply outstanding. David B

Great work Daniel. Your research went well with it. I think Blackbeard would love to hijack that model if he could. Beautiful work. David B

Your boom jaws look great however I am wondering why you use that wood instead of the boxwood or maple. Both of those would have fit the bill just right and reactions. David B

I am scratch building the Latham. However last year I had to stop on her do to health questions. The kit was to big for the size so I took the plans and shrunk them down to 1:96 so I cannot help you with the kit. Hoever the plans are first rate along with the book that came with it. As for the hull I made a waterline hull and carved the hull. I then planked over that.. As for your problem take each bulkhead to the plans and find and compare it to the plans and then check out its dimension and location. This might seem tedious but worth the hassle. This will tell you tell you if you are doing it right or wrong. David B

Lee, after seeing your work I feel like taking my model of the Benjamin W. Latham and putting it in the trash can. Outstanding work. David B -
Tilting Table on Byrnes Saw
dgbot replied to jhearl's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
This quandary has come up before. Kurt talked with Jim and found the easiest and safest way is to tilt the table saw so that the fence is flat to you. David B

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
