Grant- Speaking of 'things I never saw before', you mentioned over on Shaz' log that the lower and uppermost ratlines don't go all the way across to the outer shrouds. I've never heard that before. Was that common practice? Thanks!

Fine idea. It should be mandated, by law, that all deadeyes must be 5mm minimum and the vessel scaled accordingly!!!!!

Thin flows like water, medium like pancake syrup and thick like honey. Varies from brand to brand.

David- CA comes in different grades and setting times. The 'thin' grade sets in about 10 seconds, 'medium' maybe 30 seconds and there is a 'thick' that gives you still more time. Good old fashioned 'wood glue' (PVA) gives you much more time to work with. I like to have all 4 sitting around depending on what I am doing. If you really need time to get something aligned and set, there are 2 part epoxies with set times from 5 minutes to 2 hours. Just something to consider.

I think I've read the same thing Popeye has on the 2.5 times spacing. Can't remember where. Just keep those double holes lined up facing each other! Looking good!

I know the word shows up a lot. But when you top gun shipwrights provide inspiration to others, you've more than built a fine model.

Ahhhh......very nice. Good luck with the dacron/epoxy. Maybe you will not need any Bondo at all !

OK, I shall not report your 'day off' to the authorities. Why? Because of that exquisite job on the stern. It might please you......but it absolutely delights me. Congrats also on the 23 Kg. I have an extra 10 Kg. I can ship over if you need them

I'm terribly sorry Mark.....but glad the damage is not permanent. Darned wood can 'jump' on us......hand or machine powered. Thanks for posting your mishap ---- a reminder to us all.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
