    last week I did more work on the rack.........I thought it to be a small task, but it's kinda dragged on. I have had a nasty cold........it's now a dull roar, and I feel much better. I had done more sanding and shaping to the rack.....since I could not find the original wainscoting I had made for the build, I just improvised around the base. so it wouldn't get lost against the wall, I gave it a light stain and a coat of lacquer. now it's time for a little bit of hardware. as you can see, the depth of the rack, hides the fact that the skis have no bindings.

    thinking ahead is everything........a very nice shot of your deck planking...the nibbing looks very nice I don't usually solder anything...I try to get my rigging taught, without a lot of stress. undo stress can distort masting your build is looking very good.

    exactly how I did my Gothenborg.......the wales look as though they are built in....a subtle rise from the planking. sweet!

    really sweet the way they are shaping up Andy. I like your new title "industrial modeler".........kinda has a nice ring to it the pictures really show how the angle iron intersects one another. nicely done!

    looks very nice Augie.......do you bevel the edge, so it will butt up along the plank line? darn nice I've been fastening them while they are still damp.....I'm impatient that way I haven't had any problems with shrinkage.......probably because of the wood I'm using. I'm sure that different wood behave differently when wet. very nice job there.........doesn't look like too huge of a sanding job afterwards

    Is that a ship I see on the horizon............it is!!!!!.......it is!!!!!! with hand flips and cart wheels, and click'in me heels .......... {thought I was going to rhyme.........didn't you } well.......she looks real sweet Anja! so good to see you back in the ship yard. such a difference between the Billing's and Corel kits...you have made some great progress! I'll look forward in seeing more.

    simply amazing!!! .........and on TV no less! I see educational television has gotten a lot better! kudos for shedding more light on our hobby! I wish they would do that in our country!

    ..just thought I'd mention it...I haven't had the opportunity to go further with it. the cloth does go through with little problems.....no cloth jams :D

    she looks great Max you've accomplished some very nice bends there......I like what you did with the rudder. I've never heard of that type of lacquer.......but it looks very nice on the ship. I think the sheen will die out though once it's totally cured......it takes a while for this to occur anyway you get the best of both worlds.......they look nice and shiny in the beginning, but later they look even better...a bit more antique. very well done.........time to begin thinking of your next one.....I think

    it's amazing what you can see through the windows........I feel like a peeping Tom!!! beautiful work Doris.......those lanterns are outstanding. simply fantastic work!

    I hesitate to mention this.......but I think you might find this interesting. I have the Testor's decal maker - standard edition. there is a basic program out there, but you can't import images into it like this one. I import the image of what I want, size it and make the adjustments I want to do. the test here, is to run sail cloth through the printer and have the image print onto the sailcloth. so far, I have only done a few flags, but it does work. I have found that it needs to be sealed after the image is printed on.......it has to be something that will dry very quickly. the decal bonder that comes with the decal maker, seems to work the best. it's still in the R&D stage.......but it looks rather promising. variables I've seen so far has been in the texture of the cloth......smooth VS coarse.......tight weave VS coarse weave, and what would be the effect if the cloth was lightly sealed before the image was embossed, to prevent spreading.

    some even do scale planking.........both are equally as effective

    I may try to do the same thing on my United States build. with so many Connie builds in progress.......I'll be able to see the many different directions folks take. I've replaced the decks with wood.......and most likely I'll be doing the same to the masts. looks like I'll have the 'spare parts' your referring to I tried to talk the admiral into letting me get a Connie kit......but she told me I was insane! man........I hate it whenever she's right

    that's the problem with lesser known ships.......either you get mixed info, or you get none at all. I had the same trouble with the Goth, but three folks here supplied me with enough pictures........one fellow actually worked on the ship. he sent me a rigging plan, but it's in Dutch, and hard to read........but I think I can wing it with the pictures. I have the Half Moon that I am also working on.......it's a Billing's kit, with some parts missing.......so far, it's a fun bash. it's nice to see folks go beyond the scope of the kit.....it's a great way to expand creativity and imagination. those aspects that you mentioned......good example........when the build is complete......you won't see them. the little fudgings here and there are mere trifles...the layers of detail that your adding will hide them just fine!

    yepper! work your way to the keel first........get all that done, even the rudder. if you don't have a stand for it at this time, a holder lined with felt {or something soft}, will work best, for the time being

    I use the same method.........the thinner second planking sitting against the wales lessens the protrusion just enough and make it look more natural. I use the 1.8 mm planking for the wales and rails and .5 mm for the second planking. is that what your using Ron?

    I'll bet you've made a bridge or two in your day..........really nice work! it's going to look super when it all comes together
