Tom, The three monographs I have, basically have everything you need to build. Line sizes, rigging points and assorted details such as "wormed" or served", boats, fittings, etc. The only thing lacking is in the Belle Poule monograph and that's the frames. I don't think you'll be disappointed by any of their monographs.

Excellent work on the flags, Bug. I like the way they hang and drape....

From the bits and pieces I've read, the topmost sails were set first. The Brits knew the fleet was coming out prior to the Battle of Trafalgar because the French and Spanish were setting the top gallants and top royals. I'm sure there's some books around that would describe this process... but darned if I know which ones.

Chalk up another error to AOTS.
-
Interesting to say the least. AOTS Diana doesn't show crowsfeet either which I would have thought was pretty standard for the period.

Tom, You can send them an email in English. What I've done in the past is write it in English and then put a Google translation right after it. What they do is not a separate drawing on other monographs I've seen but include the boats on the sheets for deck fittings. None of us English speaking types have the monograph yet, as only French is available right now. The English version is coming after the first of the year.

Can you post a picture or two? That might help, along with manufacturer (if it's a kit)?
-
Sure, I can divulge... but not take pictures or "try it out". I was allowed to inspect the contents and then it has to be put away for the next 7 days and a wake-up. A new laser tube for the laser cutter. It will boost power from roughly 32W steady state to 45W steady state. I'm hoping to cut 3/16" boxwood in one pass at a good rate of speed with minimal V-ing of the kerf. If that works... I'll give 1/4" boxwood a shot. I felt (and so did some others) that I needed more power. Anyway, the extension for the cabinet is arriving tomorrow. Need to modify the case as the old tube is 850mm and the new tube 1000mm long.. and a bit bigger in diameter. Hmmm....If I got a tube big enough, I wonder if I could build a Death Star? Surrender? No.. attack in a different direction... err.. hmm.... Admiral... yep... surrender.

Matti, The hull is looking good, and that shipyard has everything one could wish for.. including a Panzer.
-
Thanks for the "likes" and the comments. Yes.. Admiral's orders are not to be questioned. Then to, part of my Christmas present arrived today, and that re-enforced the following of orders. Happy day is coming... the rest of the present is due in tomorrow. Please don't give up. I find a bit of patience, a bit of stubbornness, and a willingness to scrap something and start over goes a long way. This really is my first scratch build of a full ship. The Triton was a good learning experience and confidence builder. I'm not perfect but trying.... For the record, this is my second shot at this ship. The first was sent to the breakers yard due to stupidity and not thinking on my part. Janos, That's interesting you had problems with pear also. Very strange. Thanks Paul.. See my answer to Etcher.

Dremel Versatip Butane soldering kit
mtaylor replied to riverboat's topic in Metal Work, Soldering and Metal Fittings
The torch would be faster even using soft solder, Frank. No need to wait while the iron heats up and the joint heats up quickly. However, go with what you're comfortable with. -
Cutting Boxwood
mtaylor replied to mikiek's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
At that thickness, about a 160-170 tooth blade for a 3" diameter hobby table saw. I use mine for that purpose a lot. -
Dremel Versatip Butane soldering kit
mtaylor replied to riverboat's topic in Metal Work, Soldering and Metal Fittings
There is one other consideration, Frank. With silver soldering, the joint has to be almost perfect. There really isn't any wicking and gap filling like with the soft solder. -
Darren, 30 feet isn't unrealistic. Depending on the shipyard and what they had for lumber stock, it could be a bit more or less. Are you doing a build log of her?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
