  1. Beautiful work, Jay. I'm surprised you're milling the whole deck assembly. That has to be scary but one has to do what one has to do.. or something like that.
  2. Oh... I'm an idiot... Totally misunderstood. I'll leave quietly....
  3. Thank heavens I only have a small dog who can't jump up on the bench. Although anything that hits the floor is hers.... That's a very good repair. Looks like it's never been damaged.
  4. Nice work, Bill. I'm loving this build.
  5. Looks lovely, Mike. Do leave some extra on the frames as fairing will take that down even further.
  6. Daniel, I believe you're overthinking as I'm prone to do that all the time. 1mm should work fine. As for bending.. a bit of soaking, a bit of heat (search MSW for "plank bending") and you'll do fine.
  7. Sam, Bucklers.... they look like a lid there's no hinges as they are not hung. They get put into the port and secured. My current build has no lids but they used bucklers. Usually any the weather decks didn't have lids as there was no way to keep the water out.
  8. Kurt, Both your's and Sam's are great looking fireplaces. Wow!!!!
  9. Looking sweet, Sam. They may not have had lids but bucklers... then again, the ports on the exposed decks wouldn't have needed them....
  10. Congratulations on the excellent rigging, Bob. I like the way the blocks don't overpower the stuff in the air.
  11. Mike, I tend to agree with Martin. But in the end, it will be your choice.
  12. Alan, It happens to all of us at some time or another. There's a saying in IT: "It's not if something will happen, it's when something will happen." I too, thought it could never happen.. then it did. Luckily it was an old laptop but there were some files... Now all pc's and the laptop have back drives attached.
  13. Well done, Dave. Everyday is a new model and a new experience, right? I guess I should add "and from my experience it's also a new day to feed the scrap bin".
  14. Pasanax, Go here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/forum/14-building-framing-planking-and-plating-a-ships-hull-and-deck/ At the top, there's three pinned topic on the planking and how-to... Also here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-modeling-articles-and-downloads.php There's a section on planking and framing with some articles on this.
  15. Was that the Olympias, Druxey? There's videos on Youtube: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=trireme&tbm=vid
  16. Bindy, I think it's your call.... La Belle Poule (1765) shows 25 to 60 feet per plank, though I think the 60 might be a bit long. On the other hand, Le Venus (1782) only shows the complete strake with no length on the planks. I would hope that some like Gaetan or one of our more versed French ship builders can help as I'm a novice on these ships...
  17. Hi David, Nice work going on there... Printing... that machine is from the "old" hot lead typesetting days. "Lead", "leading" is the space between the lines of type. And I think "rule" is the name of what it does... a ruler. Been awhile since I've been around typesetting, so I'd have to do some serious Googling.
  18. Looking excellent, Jesse. What the others have said about "there will be blood".. and DNA apply. I think that's actually the first rule of model ship building.
  19. I'll keep my hopes up that your hospital visit won't be terrible. Lovely waterfront and any other occasion, you'd probably be very happy to sit there.
  20. Nice to hear the slump is over. Carl is right... it'll be something else that moves you the next time. Lovely hoops.
