    Jay, I like the caulking. Even the "defects" look like what one sees on a real ship. Have a look at EdT's log. Ed uses copper wire and liver of sulfur for black nails. Quite few others are now using it as it doesn't stain the wood like blackening solutions. The nice thing about MSW and this hobby is that there's a 1000 & 1 ways to do things.... Anyway, the liver of sulfur and copper are thought.

    Gaetan is right about adjusting the work area height, in my opinion. Here's what I have.. a movable computer desk I got dirt cheap at Office Max when they closed the store. On top is a slab of wood with four legs. I can flip that over to that it's as shown in top foto. If I want, I put the legs down and it's higher (2nd photo.. but not a good shot). Or I can remove it completely. While Gaetan's is fully adjustable, mine is either desk height or 9" inches higher.

    I received my copy today and it looks great. It will be big help in rigging my model with sails.

    Ian, When in doubt.. go for the research. You might consider making or buying a man in scale. I'm finding that it really helps to figure things like size, etc.

    Very nicely done, Fam. The sheaves look perfect. On the paper and punching a hole.... can you turn brass? Maybe make a punch with a sharp point?

    Some also use pigment (black, brown, etc.) mixed into the glue. When gluing a plank, the edge is coated with the colored glue. Seems to work well and for a prime example, see EdT's work in the scratch area... Naiad and Young America.

    Wonderful work on the beams. I was trying to figure out how you did that with a mill... a chisel to finish!!!! Love it.

    Nice work, Ian. The belfries I've seen and admittedly not enough to be an expert, show them above the rail. At 3 feet, this will be as tall as the rail. Maybe it's supposed to sit on top of it?

    Anton, I'm curious. The shunt lines from deck to the top of the mast? If someone fell, is there a way that would stop them? I ask because back in the DDM days, one of the admins did the Lady Washington and accidentally clipped onto a stay instead of using the shorter lines for that purpose. He happened to fall and basically went from the top of the mainmast to the deck. He survived but had some serious injuries. Luckily some others where on the ratlines and managed to grab him as he went by which slowed his fall.
