    Nice hatches... nay, belay that. Impressive hatches and I'm still not sure how you managed to solder both brackets but wow!!!

    Sam, It's still straight. Once there's no smell, I'll try using it on something. Bug, It's big mystery to me also. Meanwhile, back in the shipyard..... I think, hope, pray, that I've hit on the final solution to the exterior forecastle bulwarks. After realizing that doing the same thing over and over again again expecting different results is insanity, I went for something just a little bit different. A combination of spiling and stealers! No, wait... I was doing that. Change the wood.. YES!!! Change the dimensions of the wood... YES!!! Went from plum which I wasn't plum crazy about anyway to cherry. Change the dimensions from 4" X 9" to 2" X 12". The wood is more flexible and less grainy than the plum and a nicer color. After playing with some designs and feeding the scrap box, there's now one main strake that runs the 30 feet of bulwark. And two stealers to help make the transition in the flair. The next set pics (in the next several days) will show it fitted and glued in place and hopefully sanded. By the way, try to ignore the pencil marks.... Oh...I guess I better make the one for the other side while this is still fresh.

Since there was a commercial and the price in Euros, I'm assuming you're on the east side of the Atlantic...

    Welcome to MSW. Take a look at the kit build logs of the Cutty as well as the scratch builds. It might give you some ideas. Also, start a build log. You'll find it easy to get help and encouragement. It might be that what you need to do is back off the Cutty and cut your teeth on a smaller, simpler vessel.

    Being where I am, any wildfire and heavy smoke rolling into the area makes me nervous. My hope is the same as Sailor1-0. That it's far away and under control quickly.

    Grant, Any chance the cleats you made can be modified given the latest information?

    Micheal, good luck on this kit. 1667,,, hmm.... cannon were probably bronze? As for carriages, ME used to sell some carriage kits (wood) but not sure if they still do. The Lumberyard does, but I'm not sure they would have the size you'd need as their's are all scaled for 1:48.. might work, though a bit pricey for that many guns.

    Bug, I just had a nice time reading and catching up on your build, It's great to see you back. BTW, belaying pins really didn't exist until around the late 1600's or early 1700's. Lines were tied off directly to the rails.

    IE 10 reinstalls after uninstalling IE11 and rebooting, which is a nice thing. Gil, Your shroud cleats look great to these eyes.

    Just now catching up, Denis. The rigging is spectacular. You're not going to let a small thing like 4 missing cleats stop you now are you? (No pressure... nope.. not from anyone here. )

    Sam, Wiping, I think, would be preferred. The piece I soaked still has the acetone smell is now out in the garage.

    Lextin, What type of bulb do you need? Shape and wattage, I have a stockpile of some clear incandescents I was saving for a rainy day and I'll see if I have anything that will help. Sailor1**, They've practically outlawed incandescent lights down here in the States.

    Nenad, Check with burglar alarm companies as they use that tape on windows. Or maybe arts/crafts place that does stained glass windows??????

    Thanks one and all.... I'm still thinking something similar to a stealer method since it shouldn't be just one very wide plank. Druxey, you're right though. And no matter how I look at it, I'll have to spile at least one plank. It might even take 3 planks forward to cover that flair area. I'm still testing, filing, and mentally working on the final solution.

    Captain Al, Not sure where you are, but in the States you can get them over the counter at a pharmacy. Over the years, I've bought the insulin syringes (and needles) for such things as fishing (putting air in worms... long story), dispensing glue, and other such sundry tasks. They come in various sizes so do some research (Google is your friend) first.
