Hard to understand the scale - how long is the longboat?

the scale is 1:48, of course, like the Corvette.

The model of the longboat is accordingly 18.4 cm long.

thanks for the nice comment.

 

We continue the construction of the long-boat with the planking.
First, the profiled planks must be made. This is the first strake.

By heating with a soldering iron, the soaked planks can be brought into the required form.

I'm not aware of the credentials necessary to be designated "master modeller" but I would not hesitate to suggest that Johann deserves such recognition.........Always a treat to view your accomplishments!!!

Beautiful work is all I can say! What is the size of planking that you are using? 6 x 1 mm, I'm only guessing? The tapering is so exact, it's mind boggling!

In German, the wood is referred to as Elsbeere.

In English it is called probably wild service tree?

But I'm not quite sure.

In the meantime, the planking is completed on the port side.
The hull is not sanded, as can be seen.

It might be Swiss Pear for the english speaking world (german wiki mentions Schweizer Birne as an alternative name for the Elsbeere) although some of the wood sold under the name of swiss pear appears to be actual pearwood so im a bit confused.

I'm confused too. What is Swiss pear, if it's not pearwood?
